Happy Black History Month

Why is there an entire month every year about black history? It should be like the olympics... maybe once every 4 years.

One has to wonder what made them pick February. Why not November, or any other month?
In the UK, they celebrate Black History Month in October...Interesting. :hmm:
Woodson chose the second week of February for Negro History Week because it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly influenced the black American population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.

1.) I read Wikipedia before posting which didn't provide much information.
Black History Month actually started as Negro History Week in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson. The goal of Black History Week was to educate Blacks about their cultural background, and instill in them a sense of pride in their race.
Upon seeing that I immediately thought...Okay, why not choose November or any other month?
Your link gave much more detailed answers.

2.) Why do people in the UK celebrate Black History Month in October? What made them choose October over February, November, or any other month?

Or do they just want to be different similar to their metric system and driving on the left part of the road?

Akyaaba Addai Sebbo is widely regarded as the person who set up Black History Month in the UK. Addai worked with Ken Livingstone at the Greater London Council (GLC) as co-ordinator of Special Projects. The first event was held on 1st October 1987, when the GLC hosted Dr Maulana Karenga from the US to mark the contributions of Black people throughout history. Addai then drew up a plan to recognise the contributions of African, Asian and Caribbean people to the economic, cultural and political life in London and the UK. Since 1987 as part of African Jubilee Year, other boroughs began to formally institute this as Black History Month in the UK.
