Happy Birthday Quake!

One of my all time favs. Mainly because this is the game that really got everyone into internet gaming. Single player was OK.

Fast paced, seriously outbalanced guns, mods galore. What wasn't there to like?

Still my all time favorite game and I still remember picking this up in Best Buy around x-mas time in 1996 while encased in the large PC black box at the time. Come to think of it I wish I still had preserved the box and contents because it may very well be a collectors item down the road. One of my top games for sure esp. when Quake TF came knockin' on my door.

One of the best games of all time, and a personal favorite. It started TeamFortress, that in itself is an accomplishment.

I'll replay Quake once more after I'm through with Chaos Theory which I'm playing. Maybe get some texture mods for it.

Single player was a blast! It was the first real 3D shooter, not to mention one of the first game so for the original 3dfx voodoo 4meg.

I enjoyed the whole game on my pentium 133 pc with voodoo 4meg.

I just did a run through of quake and it still is a whole lot of fun. Couple of suggestions if your going to replay.

1. get the music. Makes a huge difference when playing.

2. just barrel through the levels as quick as you can. I've always been somewhat methodical while playing FPS, trying to find and kill everything. But after a rewatch of Quake Done Quick - I just said screw it, and went from point a to point b as quick as i could. Rocket jumping, stunning mobs just to run past, etc. Didn't set any records but with out worrying about collecting every armor shard - it was a lot of fun.

I am part of a minority who appreciated Quake IV, but the original Quake is certainly a superb game, just as good as DOOM II in my opinion, but I was much more impressed when Quake II was released, when I first saw it running on a demonstration stand in a retail store it literally blew my mind, I must have thought about it for the days that followed, I kept wishing I had a computer to run that thing they called a game (back then it looked more like a sci-fi movie, the graphics were that good during that time, especially for a gamer like me whose only experience of "good graphics" were from PSX games).

Wasn't Quake the first game that allowed you to "Look-Up/Look-Down" w/ your mouse? For whatever reason, I remember not being able to get that to work right....

Ahhh...Quake. My 3dfx Voodoo Banshee card ran it like a dream!

I used to play Team Fortress all the time. I remember playing it with my ~250 ping. Lag compensation FTW!

Yeah, that kinda confused me the first time I took to the game.
