Today is the one year Anniversary of one of the most significant piece of legislation passed by congress. Exactly one year ago our president and commander and chief, Barack Hussein Obama, signed into law the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act" which, the citizen of United states of America lovingly call the "Obamacare".

So how are you guys celebrating it! anyone hosting any parties?

On a more serious note, has anyone changes their stance on this issue?

It wasn't affordable then and it's less affordable now. No difference in my thinking on it. It has raised costs significantly since its vote into law.

A feel-good piece of legislation crafted through partisan secrecy. The CBO, fed a pile of horseshit, deemed it as a money saver and everyone except the faithful dreamers know that to be as far from the truth as it could get. It's a heaping stinking pile of dung.

Nancy Pelosi held a press conference to crow about its anniversary and not one single member of Congress attended. It's why the Democrats lost control of the House. It's an albatross around the neck of every single member that voted for it and they can't escape it.

Kill it with fire.

The law is a steaming pile of corporatist crap. Kill it and pass a single payer system.

No change here.

In a perfect world we would have single payer or medicare for all....

Since its not all flowers and puppies were stuck with this...

Personally I believe its a step....as was medicare and SS when first enacted and changed considerably over the next generation..

Kill the Bill!!!

As for single payer, do it to your state and see how that works out for ya. If it becomes ideal then others will learn from and copy your success. If it fails, at least the rest of us did not pay for or suffer cause of it.

You have strength in numbers, so find some like minded people in a state of your choosing and get that shit done. No excuse not to have what you want, no excuse to wait on a federal government of 310 million people and expecting to easily force it to bend to the will of a minority.

People should vote with their feet, and have their cake and eat it too. All you have to do is stop waiting on the centralization of power.

Should have broke up the "Hate It" answer as many hate it for not going far enough and many hate it for going to far.

Not enough options - it's a combination of a corrupt sellout to the industry and also has a lot of good things for the public. We do need single payer.

serious question:

Obama kept saying the whole point of this was the millions of people who don't have health insurance.

But he exempted 2.5 million people from this.

So do those 2.5 million people not need health insurance? Why/how are they special?

Get rid of it.

If you all want single payer do it at the state level please.
Washington should not be managing our health insurance.

In hindsight, it'll be looked at the way Medicare is looked at today; overwhelmingly popular with Americans with neither political party willing to cut it. The alarmists will look foolish the way the way they still do with Medicare. Just like any piece of legislation, of course, it'll need progressive overhauls to continue to be viable.

This, and well said. Same with saying they can cut out hundreds of billions in Medicare/Medicaid fraud - but ONLY if we first agree to spend it all on something else.

Oddly enough though, this may work out. So many states are wanting to opt out. If the answer is okay, once you show me YOUR state's solution with 100% coverage, then we may have a couple or three dozen trial systems to evaluate.

The 2.5 million have health insurance. The waivers are so companies and unions will not drop coverage for individuals because Obamacare calls for higher coverage than they are currently providing. It will be less expensive for these institutions to pay the penalty for not providing insurance than to provide the benefits required by Obamacare.

These waivers are supposed to expire with the full implementation of Obamacare in 2014.

On a related side note, Maine has received a waiver and requests are pending for Kentucky, Nevada and New Hampshire.

How is that? Nothing good has been implemented yet, because Republicans and conservative democrats insisted on delays of several years.

The kabuki show in the congress, will not make it past this current senate. Hopefully, now that We the real People have awoken in places like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio, reality will come back into the political process with the realization that the RepubliCons only represent the wealthy and Corporations, the Healcare Reform Act will be here to stay.

The ONLY input any Republican had in this bill was David Vitter's amendment to protect boobies. Any delays are entirely due to Democrats.

I suggest that the need to artificially keep Obamacare under that magical trillion dollar mark were the REAL cause of the delays in implementation.

They granted waivers until the insurance exchanges are up and running.

I would completely agree. Unfortunately, that magic figure was maintained through tricks and deception as you noted. Double counting of Medicare savings anyone? I actually was surprised to not see a thread about that.

I could start a whole slew of threads here if I had the notion. But they must be maintained and nurtured and frankly there's little value in it. I post here mostly for entertainment. I've said this before. I like getting laughs from the responses. It's sometimes not worth the effort for so little return though. :D
