Hanging System on Bootup

When I boot windows XP my system is hanging for a very long time after loading some apps (i think msn messenger is the last app loaded before the hang). I am unable to see any drives in my computer and I cannot connect to any internet sites (i put in address and it does nothing).

Any Ideas?

First here is a very quick try: is one of your Western Digital hard drives on an IDE cable all by itself? If so, make sure that you take the jumper off of its jumper pins completely. That is the Single Drive setting. WD drives can be fussy about that.

Hi mechBgon,

Well first things first, thank you so much for replying to my distress call. I am running my drive on SATA so it's running on its own connection.

However, I do think you are onto something with the viruses, I am currently looking at that site and I will follow all the steps and then zero my drive and try another install.

I will let you know what happens.
