Is staying in the left lane a thing now?

It seems like it's happening more and more, people not even going the speed limit or slightly above it are just hanging out in the left lane.

You have to pass them from the right lane cause they won't @&$?!#% move. I even try swearing at them when they have their windows rolled up and they still don't budge.

What gives? Is this a deer avoidance technique?

Drive a snowplow and gently push them off into the median. It's the only way.

Why not? They are impeding the flow of traffic which is a punishable offense.
Two wrongs don't make a right.

But, in Colorado, you can be pulled over by the cops for hanging out in the left lane.

I don't think driving rules really exist anymore. Rules are a form of bullying.

That's the truth. Seems like a lot of people disregard the purpose of stop signs, directionals, traffic lights, and merging.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

They don't, but what ever happened to common sense, common courtesy?

Its a state wide pass time around here. We have a couple of left lane exits and people think that means its ok to sit in the left lane for 5+ miles before the exit

I flash my brightie whities at them lately and many of them move over

That'll get you brake checked around here

I'll take that over the people that wait until they're half way past their exit to get over 3 lanes of traffic.

Here the right lane is where the worst of the worst of potholes are, so if you want to make it to your destination without wrecking your car you pretty much have to stay in the left.

I always laugh when they show "Toronto's pothole problem" on the news, they have no idea what bad pot holes are.

Hmmm, to be honest - I notice that it's much more of a "city" thing. When I drive between cities in more rural parts of Texas (and other states) the rural folks get it and aren't dickheads. It's urban shitheads that weren't ever taught ethics or morals that are the problem IMHO.

Timmins doesn't have potholes. What you have are called pingos.

i think MN might pass a law about left lane driving. It is a major problem and the semi trucks don't help

I tried flashing my lights at someone once to get them to move over. I figure that it's slightly less intrusive than using the horn? Anyway, it did work as the person moved over and I gave them a wave. Although, I felt kind of bad, because I hit the column in the wrong direction, so instead of just turning them on for a second, it toggled them... so I had to quickly toggle them back off.

Overall, I'd say that it's kind of bad around here. Generally, most people seem to realize that they should move over, but it really only takes a few people to really screw things up. I think it comes as some combination of these three things...

1. Empathetic Ignorance: This is pretty much just that someone doesn't even think about what their actions do to others. It doesn't mean that the person might not be empathetic in other areas, but they utterly fail at it when driving.
2. Self > The Collective: This is a situation where the person may realize that there are others around them and that their actions are impeding others, but they place themselves above others regardless of whether there's an actual reason to do so.
3. Some Stupid Reason: This is the one that kind of encompasses everything else. For example, I heard a guy talk about his nervous daughter driving, and how she stayed in the left lane due to needing to take a left turn 10 miles ahead. That was sort of a combination of #2 and nervousness.

technically, so is going 1 MPH over the speed limit

In my case, the state law about left lane driving has no caveats about speeding. If you can safely move over for faster traffic at the rear, then you're supposed to regardless of how fast they are going.

And speed limits?

Also true. It just seems less aggravating because at least for me speeders are taking their own risks. Though those people who go under the speed limit on roads with no ability to pass are pretty aggravating.

Hanging out in the left lane seems more dangerous, if you want to pass you have to negotiate with the right lane and with most exits being on that side it can get a little hairy when someone is slowing down.

I don't know if that 'move over' law is federal? That's just as bad as hanging out in the left lane when your are in the minority of obeying the law. Holy cow people moving over at the last minute like no one is around them or people basically freezing up when they move over to the left lane and go from 70 to 30 in a heartbeat.

1 is probably realistic with people not paying attention to anything these days except themselves.

I was really thinking it was a deer issue, but maybe I'm giving them too much credit. Seemed like if you take the left lane when there's 2 on each side it gives you more reaction time should a deer leap across.

That drives me nuts.

But the worst is the person who comes onto the freeway and has to swerve 3 lanes over to the left lane right away while cutting folks off despite the right lanes being empty for miles. Why oh why?

I also hate and not in any order.

Gawkers - People who slow down to see a car stopped 10 lines on the other side of the freeway.

Brakers - people who ride their brakes.

Tailgaters - well tailgating

Non Singlers - hate hate hate.

Scared people - sorry get off the freeway and crawl on a local road if your scared of freeways.
