I had a few silverfish a while back, then spiderbro moved in and cleared that shit right up. he's been MIA the last week though, I really hope he's alright.

There's a couple of spiders around that I've left for this purpose, but their coverage sucks because they're passive, and serve as check points. I can't have too many of the check points around because they horrify female company. Already had to fire the one hanging around the front staircase for that reason.

Now, the centipedes have a FAR higher potential to terrify female company but they're a lot more reclusive and mobile compared to the spiders. It's like having seal team 6 vs. the TSA.

Plus the benefit of bravely protecting said female company and "handling" the centipede menace is not to be underestimated.

New challenge: Find the most creative way of ending up with a monster in my house starting from something that can eat the silverfish.

Eg - Silverfish < house centipede < tarantula < ... < ... < Cthulu

that sort of thing.

Hilarious analysis :^D

sounds like you need a jumping spiderbro. Small, cute and a lean, mean killing machine that will roam your entire home looking for insects to pounce on.

I guess a centipede would work as well, but I have no experience with them as I've never seen that particular kind here in Denmark.

Walk into kitchen.
Turn on light.
Goddamn huge house centipede races from the suddenly-illuminated base of the trashcan, 4 feet, and underneath a cabinet. Sweet jesus they can move fast.

I would welcome them in the house IF I could establish some ground rules for them:
- I don't want to be able to see you.
- You will only be permitted to come within 6 feet of me if you are inside a wall.
- The bed, furniture, and countertops are all off limits.
- Violations may result in death or banishment.

Yup, this would make it perfect.

NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE!!!!! Silverfish are cute compared to house centipedes...I had a house centepede infestation to the point where they were crawling on me at night!!!! NOPE NOPE NOPE!!!!

Do not let house centipedes into your house!!!!

I live in So Cal where they are pretty new and the first time I saw one of those things, I thought it had made it way from some African jungle!

I have house centipedes in my house. I see them from time to time but only rarely. They never bother me.

I don't have any other bugs at all. They are said to even eat bed bugs, if you were to get them.

I'd say go for the house centipede. Non-toxic form of pest control.

Those aren't fish... dafuq.

Human centipedes are creepy. They're in my house, just saw one climb out of a pile of crap I was cleaning out yesterday. I stopped killing them after finding out that they kill everything else.

Ya, I left that typo in at the beginning...

Centipedes are insanely fast, bigger and scarier looking than silverfish, and even though they are harmless, that fact is utterly meaningless when one drops on you in the middle of the night. I'm not really bothered by centipedes, but I would never voluntarily introduce them to a place I was living.

My reaction is generally

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

run in circles

look for bug spray
look for bleach
look for flamethrower

panic panic panic

scream

desperately wish for "nuke from orbit" option

(ot)Hey did he ever even finish that story?

It's been years now, but I remember having read about a dozen volumes of that series, then finding out there were still more to be released at that time. I enjoyed it very much, at least the first several, just wish he would have wrapped it up & moved on to another series.

Sadly he died before he could actually complete it, but he did leave an outline for the conclusion which was split into 3 books written by Brandon Sanderson. I was skeptical but they turned out pretty good ... I'm 2/3'rds of the way through the last one now.

And on-topic I vote for 'pedes! :)

Silverfish often live in the walls eating some kind of mold that grows on the back of wall board. Borac acid, aka roach powder used very lightly in the right places plus I put packets of something I think called Dekka in boxes for storage.

House centipedes and daddy long legs type spiders I try to leave alone.

I freaking HATE those house centipedes. They are super fast, climb on walls, and are ugly as sin. I have them everywhere. I have a few window panes that are removed. Still haven't gotten them replaced as I'm to busy remodeling the rest of the house. I'm guessing they keep coming in that way.

I had one come out in the bathroom while a girl was over. I rushed in to stomp on it like a man but she made me keep it alive :colbert:

There is something freaky about how the house centipede moves when they get bigger. They also make a bit of a mess when you squish the big ones and have a foul odor.

I don't like any bugs or critters in my place, so most things I find in here die ASAP. Recently some spiders moved in and kept making a single strand or two of web across my doorway for me to walk through in the morning... I think they were purposely trolling me  I hunted them down.

Silverfish eat textiles. Centipedes are fairly harmless, but they like moist conditions. They may not be happy in your apt. Maybe something like diatomacous earth, or boric acid would work better.

I've had great results with boric acid against fleas and roaches. What would probably help the most is if you were to vacuum your apt once in a while.

If you guys with centipede issues spray your foundation and caulk any cracks in the foundation, you'll eliminate most of the problem. You can also spray your baseboards as well for even more protection. As a matter-of-fact, when I start seeing centipedes in my house, I know it is time to spray the foundation again and they pretty much disappear within a day or two. I don't treat all the baseboards in my house, but I do have a sunroom with double sliding glass doors and I suspect many come in that way, so I typically do spray the baseboards in that room. Without being exposed to weather, that indoor barrier lasts quite some time.

I actually do hate killing them as well and wouldn't mind if I had a couple centipedes and spiders living in the house to patrol for nastier invasions, but they won't stay hidden and my wife will have no part of that. :)

House centipedes are scary. If they don't scare you they will surely scare your guests. I would never go to a friend's house who had those running around.

Spiders are great for pest control since you never see them. So are frogs if your problem is in the bathroom like with ants coming in and using your bathroom as their water supply. The best are geckos if you have any where you live. It's amazing what a gecko can do. You'll see a spider and before you can even react to the spider the gecko will come out of nowhere and eat it.

Can't you just get an exterminator?

WTF, I wouldn't live with either of those in my house.

In my house I noticed a few of the slow-moving, big-segment centipedes; they're not like the super-fast hairy ones, but seem to be bigger and the segments are fat and shiny. I read online these are called "garden centipedes". They freaked my wife out pretty good, they only seemed to pop up in the house this year after excessive amounts of rain the past few months.

Hmm maybe I should buy a pet gecko; I'm afraid the cats would eat it though.
