If regular people can be fined for parking in handicapped spaces, handicapped people should be fined for using regualr parking spaces, since there are ALWAYS handicapped spaces available, and if they're taking up regular spaces then they're making it that much more difficult for everyone else to get parking.

And no, I don't park in handicapped spots. The fine is like $250.

The handicapped spaces where I work are almost always full..there aren't many of them at all.

while that is true i do have to go out and say there are quite a few people who claim to be handicapped when they are really not but they still get the blue badge thingy.

kudos for the man

Along the same line, I think all fatasses should not be given a handicap sticker. Maybe a Fat sticker that would force them to park in spots that are the furtherest away from the building. Nothing worse that see some fatass roll out of their geo metro in the handicap parking spots. They aren't handicap, they're fvckin lazy.

The story puts a big grin on my face, but the guy shoud be made to pay for the new windshield. And the girls should get ticketed for being in a handicapped spot.

I would be upset if there truely were no parking spots in the handicapped area and someone had taken a spot who wasn't legitimate. But I wouldn't be quite as upset if there were another 5 spots left to be filled.

I understand if this guy had walked into the store from a 100 yards away in the parking lot, confronted her about it and she laughed at him for having to walk that far. But she said there were plenty of other spots. If he felt obligated to let her know then to me it sounds as though he is just using his disability to bully people around.

Granted, i'm not saying the girl parking in a handicapped parking spot is okay. But neither is a cranky electrician breaking peoples windows.

There DO seem to be a disproportinate number of people with no discernible handicap sporting handicapped signs in their cars. I believe there's a fair amount of low level fraud involved in obtaining them (lax doctors casually signing the forms).

Should have made them handicapped. Whack 'em a few times in the knee really hard. Their parking is now justified.

Remember though that many people have cardiac or respiratory problems that don't show. For walking short distances, they are fine, but across the parking lot no. Where I have lived they were pretty much given out too freely, but that has been tightened up pretty much.

Also remember that people who drive handicapped people are permitted to park in those areas too. While I am fit, my mother is not and when she comes to visit, she brings her tag and we use it. Someone seeing me getting out of my car might think I was abusing the tag, but in reality I parked there because she needs a shorter walk.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.

I say the fine was meted out. The guy gets a warning, the girls don't get a ticket, but they have to pay for the replacement of their windshield. ;)

We had an incident a few years back where a fire truck smacked some cars that were parked too close to an intersection (cramped parking near campus.) Lots of complaints, but it was the fault of those that parked the cars improperly.

He should have just shaken his head and walked away. Those girls will get what's coming to them sooner or later.

However, he should pay to repair the windshield (+ charged with vandalism? :D) and those snotty girls should get a fine for parking in the disabled spot.

As a handicapped driver, they are NOT ALWAYS free. I quite often wind up parking waaaaay on the other side of the lot to keep away from other cars. If someone parks on the passenger side of my van, I cant drop the lift so I'm stranded.

I've heard stories of people pulling up behind a car that's illegally in a handicap space and not letting them out until the cops came. But inflicting damage to the other person or their car is illegal and that person deserves to be punished accordng to the law as well.

That probably would have been the best course of action.

agreed. since when is vigilantism acceptable? now is it okay to smash the window of a car that parks at my university without a permit? hell no. this guy went too far, and while i respect him for standing up for himself AND taking the consequences for it, he still crossed the line. There are better ways to get your point accross than violence.

No kidding. Who gives a crap if "there is always handicapped spots even when the rest of the lot is full" That's the idea, genius!

Yes. I am sure the entire parking lot is FULL with no spots anywhere... even if you have to make your fat asses walk an extra 200 feet. Big deal. At least you can. And even if it truly is full, too friggen bad. Go to a store that has more parking if its that incredibly bad. If a handicapped person comes in and their spots are taken, they don't even have the option of walking the extra distance. Get it through your freakin' thick skulls. The spots are there for a reason. If you don't have a little blue or red placard, you're not the reason.
