Hand Breaded Chicken Filet Sandwich from Carl's Jr

I just had one of these and WTF the texture of the chicken was unlike any chicken I've ever had. When I took the first bite, I had to do a double take to see if it was even cooked. It felt really fibrous like I was biting into raw meat, either that or tendons.
I've never had a chicken sandwich that was like this. WTF did I just eat?

Maybe you are used to processed chicken sandwiches like McChickens, and this is made from a real breast piece? Or you got a bad piece or something? I dunno, *shrug*

I just did some googling and other people are reporting the same rubbery texture.

"I’ve tried this. Maybe it’s the way they prepare it at my local Carl’s Jr., but it tastes strange… Couldn’t finish it. Chicken was rubbery and tasted like rotten chicken."
"Similar experiences at my Hardee’s. The chicken just tastes off…although mine is mostly a texture issue…like it’s…wet or something, I don’t quite know how to describe it. Very chewy. The breakfast chicken is the same too, which sucks because I used to -love- the chicken biscuits."
"Exact same experience. Chicken had the texture and tasted like rubber. I think the oil they chose was a bad oil. something definitely tasted strange."

I'm familiar with the difference between the pink gunk and a real slice of chicken meat. This actually looks fibrous like it's a real slice of meat.

Maybe the patty was gristle slurry instead of meat slurry.

That's what I was guessing. But it looks just like a normal piece of chicken breast with the muscle fibers...

Maybe the chickens were raised differently or have this different hormone treatment.

I usually avoid Carl's because they extraordinarily stand out to be as tasting artificial. I couldn't pass up on the buy one get one free though.

*shart*

ahahaha they even try extra hard to portray themselves as being natural... hence the "hand breaded," and their commercials...

What a quack. If a food joint actually has to go out of their way to advertise that they're not some fucked up machine stuff, you know something is up.

Thawed then refrozen chicken would taste like ass and have the rubbery texture. Perhaps carl is becoming even cheaper and or lazier than usual?

They play on the hype that something not made by a machine or having natural ingredients automatically means it tastes better. People fall for that all the time.

About the only fast food chicken sandwich I like is Wendy's Spicy Chicken. I always get a (relatively) nice piece of breast meat chicken. Don't care for the processed patty kind.

Anyone else a fan of Wendy's Spicy Chicken?

I get the 99 cent chicken sandwich all the time.

Haven't tried this, but I have to admit their new'ish Chicken Strips are pretty damn good, way too small but I like how they taste a lot. I absolutely hated the old recipe ones. I tried them twice in my life and swore I'd never get them again. But when they announced "all new uber hand breaded strips" I reluctantly gave them a shot. It's a shame if this sandwich is fail because the strips are some of the best fast food ones I've had.

Sorry, I should have been clear. I meant the full size Spicy Chicken, not the value menu one which is new I believe, and have not tried.

You are referring to their new 99 cent spicy chicken right?

I thought the same same thing when I tried their chicken fingers and have not gotten them again. I now go there only for their burgers which are imho the best in fast food...yep even better than 5 gays burgers.

The 99 cent one is slurry.

The full-sized one is real and pretty good; at least the last one I had was.

You didn't need to be clear, I knew what you were talking about. I just wanted to say that I get the 99 cent one. I have yet to try any of the spicy ones, haven't even tried the nuggets, which are also 99 cents. I usually get 2 99 cent double stack and a 99 cent chicken sandwich, good meal for a little over 3 bucks.

Wendy's Spicy Chicken is great, but it has some undesirable side effects.

"Carl's Jr" is called "Hardees" out here. I tried the sandwich the other day. I asked for it without mayo to cut back on the fat a bit (though I do love mayo). They put mayo on it anyway. Still, it was pretty dry. I'm tempted to order another to see if I get a good one, but I'd probably die of a heart attack.
