Halt and Catch Fire Season 2

Really hope that AMC gives them a third season, but it doesn't look good. Apparently the ratings have just gone from bad to worse.

Season 2 was great, though, and I love the way it ended.
They lost a third of their views in both categories (demo and total) from season 1 to 2.

I would guess that most of the people interested in this show are techies, either past or present. If that's true, there are a lot of ways the story is pure bullshit. The computer "virus" that can run on and infect any computer is just one example of that. The idea that owning a mainframe somehow lets you run a national network is another.

But I think most people can overlook crap like that. The real issue is whether or not the story is any good and personally, it felt to me like they were flailing around all season. The finale was a perfect example of that - who really believed the story that moving to California was really going to fix anything or that everyone in Mutiny was just going to pack up and get on a plane? The entire season was an example of sloppy writing and doesn't even come close to the quality of the first season, which btw was no Emmy winner either but at least it had some direction and believable drama.

I'm not reading all the thread as I'm only on S02E07 right now. I just wanted to pop in and say that Kerry Bishé is incredibly pretty.

Agreed. Been a big fan of hers for a while. Her beauty mark (or mole) doesn't bother me, oddly enough. Some it would, her it doesn't.

Yeah she seriously needs to buzz that damn thing off. Its much more noticeable in the show than in photos I've seen.

As far as the show, I mentioned many episodes back that I thought as far as the season long story arc (tech wise) it seemed to no have really developed. In the final show it comes down to something like starting prodigy and norton.

And speaking of the mole bitch, lol at her decided to sink all of their personal money into a server. That can't possibly do anything but work out well.

Only to be matched by gordon going batshit at seeing the security article on the plane, as if the time between his phone call with joe and getting on the plane would have changed if he had said yes right then.

This season definitely lacked the better tech talk aspect.

I was surprised it got a second season. I had high hopes after Madmen, and I really wanted to like it, but I couldn't make it past episode 3 of season 1. The premise was good, but the characters were predictable cliches, and the glaring technical inaccuracies and contrived technical problems just made it worse. Even Walking Dead has a more believable pot.

Uh, what? This show is one of the most technically accurate shows regarding computers in television history. Not perfect, but pretty damn good. The characters actually aren't that predictable once you get into it, the situations are no more "contrived" than any other Drama (i.e. Mad Men), and saying that the Walking Dead is more realistic is just trolling.

Only on the internet. Do yourself a favor and "suffer" (lol) through season 1 to get to season 2. I personally enjoyed season 1, but season 2 is a lot better. I hope this gets a season 3.

We're living in a golden age of quality TV. Anyone who "can't make it through" Halt and Catch Fire sounds like a spoiled brat.

Hey now... it's an IBM mainframe. They have better resale value than a server 🙂

Tight tight tight!!! When I saw this thread bumped I was expecting bad news coming in since all indications were that it wasn't being brought back. Great news

Reading the article, I'm Glad AMC is siding with quality over quantity (ratings), but I have a hard time believing it'll last. Still, one more season is one more season, I just hope they don't cut the show off at a cliffhanger.

It seems AMC based their decision on the fact they believe it will have a solid following on Netflix after the series ends and that they plan on making their money that way. Interesting angle to play.

Doesn't matter to me. it isn't a cop/doc/superhero show. Reality TV done right.
