No matter what OS I try (windows 98, 98se, ME, XP) it stops at the "Wizard that guides me through the rest of the process" when it reaches 100%...

A couple of weeks ago I built a system and spent half the day trying to figure out why my @#$% Win95/98/ME would hard lock during the install. I couldn't even get to the point where I was supposed to enter the product key. :| Finally, just before getting the crowbar, I switched out my video card (took out PCI Trident and put in AGP SiS 6326) and it worked! The crazy thing was that I had been using the Trident in a ME system for 9 months and it worked fine

This is probably not related to your problem but it's an amusing story anyway ;)

ObiDon's post raised a thought: check in your BIOS to see what the video initialization order is. If you have a PCI vid card in there make sure it's PCI first, AGP second, and vice versa if you have an AGP vid card.

Hmm, I recently reformatted and had to reinstall Windows, and I too hanged during installation of Windows during the hardware detection. I fixed this by taking out every PCI card in my box, leaving only my video card in, and then installing. It worked great. This happened when trying to install both Windows 98 and 98SE, so it fits the description of your problem. Hope this helps.

Try this:
1. Clear the CMOS (jumper)
2. Load BIOS defaults, Restart
3. Set up the BIOS the way you want it, Restart
4. Try the OS install again

I know, you've probably already tried this, but what do you want for free? :)

Check to make sure the floppy drive is plugged in correctly(Not bass ackwards). Windows does a check for a floppy drive for some reason and if there is none it won't install in most cases and it will freeze the system completely. Hope this helps.

Yeah, most of the time when I install an OS, I have to put a floppy disk in to get it past the setup screen, but in this case, it won't work... The floppy is hooked up right though...

I see in your system specs that you are loading off of a dvd drive. Have you tried a regular cdrom drive? I know this isn't a permanent solution, but it works sometimes. Worth a shot, right?
