Halon System - Help!

I'm working on our budget now and I pointed out to my boss we have a water sprinkler system in our server room. I told him if it goes off we lose all of our equipment and suggested we implement a halon system.

Thing is, I don't know what the hell I am talking about or where to start. Anyone have any experience with these systems or ones like it?

We've gone away from Halon in our equipment rooms and went with FM-200 instead.
I believe the difference is that you can remain in the room when FM-200 discharges, whereas with Halon you were supposed to leave the room. Not that you want to hang out in a room with a fire.
Edit for some relevance.
We bought our system from Kidde, and if I recall correctly, we contracted a local company with experience on the system to install and maintain the system. Although it's been a while since I've worked in a protected environment, that may give you a direction to start in at least, or wait for someone more knowledgable to post.

That looks awesome. We use Halon, but that looks good, any idea how they compare?

we have halon, when they do tests on it, its loooooooud and you cannot be in the room, as it sucks the air out.

insta death!

We have a FM-200 system from Kiddie. Truly, you need to talk to a vendor. You will most likely not be able to install the system yourself and will need them to actually give you a quote.

I have no plans on doing it myself and will definitely be getting a quote. I didn't even know of FM-200 until it was mentioned here, which is why I came here.

I called Dupont and left someone a message there for more info and a quote. I guess I will call Kiddie also.

Thanks for all the information 😀

I thought Halon was outlawed for new systems, and grandfathered for existing. It is very expensive to cleanup and dangerous if anyone is in the data center if it goes off. You could investigate a dry sprinkler system, the pipes are empty until a fire sets them off this avoids damage to equipment in case of accidental leaks and pipe breakings.
