Why did this game get such rave reviews?

The first half was cool but the second half....WAY too repetitive, one level doing the same thing over and over for 2hrs all parts of the level look the same and all enemies look the same. WAY to few weapons. Enemy variety is none.

While its a good game..I think its way over rated... Why would people over rate it?

Im not trying to start a flame war Im just wondering what opinions are....

i enjoyed the game but didnt beat it.
it was an above average console shooter, not much more IMO.

and having to the use the tank masked as a controller didnt help matters.

Beat the game on Legendary :)

Lots of fun to play with buddies or 2 player via campaign.

I give it OODLES of credit for the storyline, which, except for Half-Life, stands head-and-shoulders above the tripe that normally functions as a "plot" in action shooters (console or otherwise).

No probs here with any of the vehicles, especially the tank.

I'll admit that the repetition of levels is a problem. And Halo2 had best NOT reuse maps in that fashion.

But the unfolding events, the betrayals, the Flood...I was so engrossed in the storyline that it all added up to a stellar experience for me.

Beat both in Normal and Heroic, starting on Legendary.

The map is repetative, have to agree, but the enemy you face when you're running in aren't the same as those you face when you rushes out. That helps out a little. I think what happened is that they have a really tight schedule to meet. They have to release the game along with Xbox's official release. They even have to give up some of the features like coop mode over 2 xbox.

The storyline helps alot to have us forget about the repeatitiveness. When you're busy running away from those floods, who cares what map it is? RUN!

Can't wait for HALO 2

I was late in trying Halo, but have had a ton of fun playing it. I've played most of it in coop mode with a friend which makes getting through it easier. Running around in a Warthog is a blast. Flying a Banshee is ok, they could have done a lot more with it. I think it is a must have game for Xbox

The only reason to play Halo on legendary is to see the ending sequence... that is my favorite part...

What is repetitive about it that is not repetitive in any other FPS game? If you just don't like FPS games, you don't need to say that you didn't like Halo and forget to say that you just don't like FPS. I hate RPG games but I never complain that I thought FFX sucked.

Anyway, I think it is a great game.

in halflife, you had to deal with crisis after crisis...

one setting: you walk into a room with a bridge suspended over some toxic sludge...the bridge collapses...you toss some barrels over the side onto the sludge so you make a new makeshift bridge...

Halo is non-stop in your face action. I played that game for days on end, 24 hours a day last Christmas. I went home from TN and traded in my GC for a XBox just to play Halo for days on end. It rules. Just like Doom, Quake, Q2, HL, and Goldeneye, it set a new standard in it's own right for every FPS on any console/PC to be judged.

I agree with you on the repetitiveness....however, to me the game itself was so immersing it didn't matter to me. To each his own - I hated HL which is considered to be one of the best FPS of all time.

I think he meant the controller was like a tank....big and bulky...? eh...nevermind.

Anyway, I thought Halo was awesome. I beat it in single player but never played it in co-op. I've got a GC right now and if Metroid Prime doesn't turn out to be anything big then I'm gonna sell it and buy an Xbox, just for Halo.

Might play some MechAssault as well though ;)

No...you're right...I misunderstood his comment big-time.
I had the good fortune to play Halo with the EXCEPTIONAL "S" controller, so I never had to muddle through with the original controller.
Two fo my buddies who have had their Xboxes much longer than I have both bought an "S" controller this week and are RAVING about how much better it is, particularly when playing Halo.

Metroid will be a big game for the GC, but MechAssault is AWESOME (several threads about that here on AT already).
And you would be buying an Xbox immediately after playing the Splinter Cell demo. It really is that good!

Isn't Splinter Cell coming out on the PC too?

I am use to the Xbox controls from playing Halo, but a FPS is still best on a computer.

the whole library scene was the only truly repetitive part for me. And I would've liked to see more "big time" bosses.

Realistic?

Yea a SuperHuman Soldier on a wierd planet shaped as a Halo inhabited by alien beings is relastic.....and since they were thinking about realism when they made the game they only included a few "realistic" weapons......

lol.

Me some friends had fun playing it. Not for long though I dind't l'ike it much, only bits of it at a time. It was *fun* to play but wasn't that great in my opinion. Games are only fun with friends or when my friends are playing on the net together though.

Scenary was boring but thats much like every other FPS out there......

Yeah, it's even more boring than the game itself.

Try playing with 16 different people on deathmatch or team ctf/slayer. It's a totally different experience.

Actually, I agree with the "realism" effect partly. You can imagine a universe/future where Halo would be possible. Even if it isn't true now, or anytime soon, it is still possible. "Bosses" at then end of each level does not follow along with this "realism possibility."
