It actually looked good. I bet some company started working on it as a prototype but had not yet gotten rights to the Halo name and when they showed Microsoft, they said NO.

No one knows the exact details (except the editor in question) but it's not a homebrew piece of software...if you watched it it was a AAA publishing house. They had to have gotten MS' blessing at some point. Joystiq said there was/is some secret behind the scenes stuff going on b/t MS and Nintendo, but those are all rumors at this point.

Well, Viva Pinata is going over to the DS so it shouldn't be surprising that there was a possibility of a DS version of Halo. I think the biggest question is where would it fit in in the 'Halo-verse'.

I'm not a big Halo fan, but personally, I was totally impressed by the look and fluidity of the game play. I think this game would sell like crazy as a DS title in the U.S., and would no doubt increase DS unit sales even more than they already are.

Crazy that they obviously got quite a bit into the development cycle before pulling the plug. Maybe at some point a version of it will leak out online for people to try out.

From the look of the game it was a remake of halo 1 with the dual wielding of weapons from Halo 2&3.

Microsoft was probably offering Halo DS in exchange for Nintendo's piece of Redmond.:p

Now they have split from maybe we'll see it? Maybe the timing of this 'leak' was intentional?

That would be a big $$$ maker for MS as the DS is outselling everything.

Bungie puts the Halo DS thing to rest

Kotaku: The whole Halo on the DS rumor just doesn't want to die, do you see that in the cards?

Brian Jarrard: This rumor has been circulating for a while and as you know we even saw some real life screens and assets this week. Ultimately it's up to Microsoft to decide if and when they take Halo to a different platform. That particular demo was in fact created and I believe it was an unsolicited pitch a long time ago but nothing ever came of it.

Good interview with Bungie overall.
