This demo features "The Silent Cartographer" mission from the single-player campaign (and a favorite), as well as the "Blood Gulch" map for multiplayer action. The demo supports up to 16 players in online Slayer and CTF matches. There's no save-game support, and vehicle selection is limited, but hey, this is a big freebie, so we're not complaining.

Just grab it, already.

This game is growing on me all the time particularly since I played online last night. I bought it thinking I would play it, finish it then file it away never to be played again, but I was wrong. I did however start the game on Legendary and it's a bit g'd@mn hard...so I doubt I'll ever finish it... lol

No, as I noted, I WAS at work, but I'm home now and the f***ing thing doesn't work!!!:| When I try to launch it, it immediately pops a box saying:

Halo - Fatal Error

Problem: A problem occured initializing Direct3D. Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG.

Machine Info: 2100 MHz, 1024MB, 128M nVidia GeForceFX 5900 (0x0331)

I've got DX 9.0b and 45.23 drivers installed. DXDIAG runs flawlessly and other games work, but apparently Halo won't. Screw 'em. Glad I bought my Halo (XBox) used!

Well,,, I finished the demo already. Time me from my last post (about 3 hours).

The game showed that my r9700pro was too far overclocked on core. So, I dropped to 360 again.

For forcing my Vid card so hard ,,, the graphics were'nt very impressive.
(must be the game engine working it so hard?)

It was alot like Unreal2 to me. But Unreal2 doesnt have vehicles to drive. (fun time driving over aliens)

And the game voice sounded ALOT like Aida also.

probably the game artifcated, which happens when its overclocked beyond it's tolerance

yes...don't overclock...when I oc'd my DDR 400 memory I started seeing rainbows in RTCW and everyone thought I was nuts

You never heard of Artifacts ?

I saw 'speckles'. --- too far overclocked on core ...

If you see texture ripping or abnormalities --- too far overclocked on memory ...

Just buy it, the game progresses to some awesome levels. Graphics are extremely well done and it's a blast to play I'm hooked.
Been playing it nonstop. I want to finish it before I play the multiplayer levels.
They did a really nice job with it.

I think the graphics are bland.. No eyes on faces,,, no texture to surfaces.

or maybe the Demo is messed up

yea, I know about artifacts, but that wasn't what you said. I thought you were saying that the game was specifically telling you about your overclock.

Well, after poking around the newsgroup and seeing how many people are having the same problems with the full version, I was able to get it to go by adding this switch to the shortcut: -vidmode 1024,768,100

The reason console gaming is so much bigger than PC is cuz an Xbox doesn't force you to do arcane things to your shortcuts to get the damn thing to run. You just pop in the disc and it WORKS!

As for Halo - it ain't nothing much and the only plus is finally decent controls. It looks WORSE than the Xbox, something's goofy with the sound (guns are too quiet) and overall, it's a yawner.

I tried downloading it twice and both time the executable crashes. Anybody else have this problem? Or should I wait and download at a less congested time?

I get a message that it isn't a a valid windows 32 application. WTF?!

All I get is a program crash. The file does not have an icon like it is a bad download. Maybe the invalind windows aplication is for a similar reason. Anybody know of alternate sourses where I can get a good file?

It looks WORSE than the Xbox

It looks a lot better to me. Fire them up side by side, I'd say it's a rather large performance in terms of visuals and an enormous improvement in terms of performance. Although, I can't say for certain that the demo has everything the full version does.
