Halo 3 Preorders At Eb/gamestop 11/1

Heh lengendary is $100!
The last collectors edition I bought was that warcraft III and it turned out to be a complete money waster. 😀
Never will I buy another collectors edition video game!

Exactly my thoughts. In the end, the things are mass produced enough that they never sell out, so it's not worth any more than any other edition, and the only bonuses are that you get a pretty package, maybe a shirt, a figurine or stickers... and some lousy print material that cost a whole 2 cents to make.

The game isn't any better or worse, and the crap just sits on your shelf.

The only exception is World of Warcraft Collector's Edition (and soon Burning Crusade Colletctor's Edition). Those are goign for $300 on ebay.

The Legendary edition will come with a full size replica of the master chief helmet.. maybe that's why it's so expensive.

this is insane, too early to pre-order, unless you want the legendary edition with the helmet. lol
but still, its not like its going to run out of stock at launch day or something. Unlike 360 or PS3, halo3 is a game on a dvd and can be manufactured in tonnes at a short moments notice.

I know at least one person that will get this. I might, depending on the quality of it, just for kicks.

There are other examples.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin comes with a whole package of schwag (case, soundtrack, artbook, stylus, poster) since it's the 20th anniv. of Castlevania

Zelda: Wind Waker came with the Ocarina of Time bonus disk

There were three Midway games (titles escape me ATM) that each came with a copy of the corresponding latest Midway Arcade Treasures

The Thing came with a copy of the movie

That's all fairly valuable stuff, not to mention all the games that come with smaller bits of schwag like art books and soundtracks.

Halo 3 is inching closer 🙂🙂

yeah, well I hope you aren't too excited because it's like waiting for your birthday next year when you haven't had one this year.

I went into my GameStop and called my brother to ask which version he wanted....of courses he wanted the most expensive one. lolol

But I guess they are taking VERY limited reserves for the Legendary version. I can just see people spending $300 on ebay for that when it comes out.

Any lawyers in here? I?m curious what the law states on money as a deposit, and if EB Games can even use this money until the transaction is finalized (game is purchased). This is not a bank, your money is not insured and I don?t know if they can fully act like a bank in the fact they will spend the money they might not or should not fully have(I?ll be waiting for someone to give me a real world example of what they are doing). If they can?t do that then I question the next following:

Is a deposit on a game no different than a deposit on a rental property? In a rental property if they put your money in an interest bearing account, then they must 1st tell you and must also give you the interest earned on the amount.

I?m just shooting idea?s out, feel obliged to state your opinion, but please don?t waste your time and flame.

Cheers

yes, they can spend the money,it acts like an accounts payable in there balance sheet in liabilities, and as cash as an asset . if the contract is refundable, they also have to set aside enough cash to return all the PS3 deposits, (which is not a big deal for a company like eb games)

If they do a PC version it will be way later since halo 2 for pc hasn't came out yet.

I talked to a manager and there is going to be three version. the basic for 59.99, the CE for 69.99 and then the legendary for 99.99. The legendary will have the helmet and a stand along with the game and three dvds of extras, one being all the cut scenes from all three games in HD.

As santz said, they canspend your money. The real estate industry (among others) is heavily regulated, and you are correct in noting that real-estate deposits are held in escrow, with income earned for the depositor, not for the depositing bank/real-estate agent. Lawyers handle client funds in the same way, by depositing retainer fees into interest bearing accounts that pay interest to the client, not to the lawyer, with the actual funds removed by/for the lawyer only after services have been rendered. The video game industry, by contrast, and more precisely the retail gaming industry, is not so heavily regulated, and they are free to do basically anything they want with your money. That said, deposits at EB/gamestop are still accompanied by contracts, and the contract laws prevent EB from running off with your money, despite the fact that your money is not insured. The only way insurance plays a role here is if EB goes bankrupt, and owes more money than it has to its creditors (who take precedence over you, unfortunately), in which case EB might spend its last penny paying back its bank loans, and you get the shaft. I wouldn't worry too much about that happening though...EB seems to be doing just fine...what with $100.00 console titles to sell through preorder...
