If you're playing in a LAN with a bunch of friends, yes it could be. If you're playing online with the cheaters, kids, & malcontents; no.

Having not played HL2 I can't really comment on that, but I have had very few games that have been anywhere near as fun as Halo 1 & 2 with my friends.
