Halloween - why do some reject it?

I hope the folks who don't like Halloween, don't figure out the origins of Christmas Carols.
BTW, I am Christian, and I have no problem with Halloween.

😀

Good one, HotChic.

Some people are nuts. Take my in-laws for instance. They are against Halloween, Santa Claus (Satan Claus!), 'secular music', and so on and so on. Some Christians (and other religious clubs) get very cultish about some things. For example, my husband was not allowed to take martial arts when he was growing up because Asian cultures are the devil! 😀 It's a shame, because he would have been a black belt for sure. Personally, I think his mom just didn't want to shell out the $$ for lessons nor did she want to drive him back and forth to class. She did enjoy sitting around with the Bible in her lap, telling everyone how to be more Christ-like while she herself didn't engage in anything but self-glorification. His extended family was to some extent, an informal cult, with his mom as (no lie) the Prophetess.

And then along came Satan's daughter herself.... bwahahahaha! 😉

<bad influence

I reject it because I just don't care about it. I think it's kind of stupid.

I don't go out and protest against it or talk about how much I hate it. I just don't do anything for Halloween.

Thriiillleerrr thrilllerr night!

its kind of dumb used to like it but don't care for it but my sis birthday is on that day so a celebration is still on i think

I wonder if those people realize that most Christian holidays were originally pagan holidays that early christians appropriated in order to gain more converts.

So why do people think this about halloween? I haven't really asked them about it.

thats why.

im just going to assume they are going to raise some fcuked up kids.

Its the devils holiday!

Well, duh! That's the best part about it.

That and the fact that it's my wedding anniversary too. We have the perfect excuse to have badass Halloween parties forevermore. 🙂

heh, my dorm at rice U hosts a party every halloween: Night of Decadence (called NOD).

We won best party a few years ago from rolling stone. Halloween isn't rejected here, nosireebob.

I enjoy it, however, I don't make a big deal of it. We have this one guy in my department at work who is insanely into halloween. He has this awesome "pinhead" costume that he wears each year and he volunteers at a bunch of haunted houses.

It's funny when Christians and pseudoChristians reject pagan holidays. Where do they think the Catholic Church got the dates for their holidays?

Most lay protestants have a very poor knowledge of Church history.
It is appalling.

Most lay Catholics have a very poor understanding of what legalism is.
It is appalling.

While I don't reject Halloween, its been several years since I've put a costume on and gone trick or treating, being almost 22. Fortunately, my younger brothers still go trick out treating. Naturally, they give me some of their haul . . . as payment for playing chaperone . . . yeah, that sounds good. Payment for being chaperone.

That alone is reason to like it. 🙂

Kids love it - free candy.
Juvenile's love it - cause to vandalize the neighborhood.
Corporations love it - very profitable.

I think this year, I'll dress up as Gollum, or maybe Smeagol. I frighten people at work regularly with his voice. Though I don't don the garb for work. Usually. 😀

because getting dressed up and going door-to-door begging for candy is pretty lame.

lame....
or awesome?

what a crazy tradition, though.

why would christians reject the use of pagan rituals when their two big days were (are) pagan days...they should have just usurped that day for a holiday as well.
or did they and its just not as popular as the getting free candy one?
