Just came back from it. If you are thinking of seeing this in the theater, save your money. I'm not happy with Rob Zombie at the moment. There are so many things wrong with this movie I don't even know where to start. Complete and utter disappointment that should not have the Halloween "brand" associated with it.

We need actual info, not a vague opinion. Did you like the first one? Why? Why not?
Be specific. Use exemplification.

Yes sir. **May contain spoilers**

As far as the first remake, I thought it wasn't the greatest Halloween I've ever seen but I still enjoyed it. Rob Zombie exploring Michael's childhood was an interesting take on the story. I also liked seeing a bit more of the therapy sessions between Michael and Dr. Loomis. Sure the movie had its downfalls (The "Love Hurts" scene was just laughable, Annie's/Lynda's/Laurie's interactions with eachother seemed rather forced and not very believable, etc.) but overall I enjoyed it and thought Rob Zombie could add a freshness to the Halloween series I loved growing up.

With Halloween 2, Rob Zombie decided to piss away any character development he made with the first one.

Dr. Loomis, who in the original movies and the remake knew what Michael was and what he was capable of, was turned into a publicity-whore "Gale Weathers from Scream" character just to sell his new book about the events that unfolded in RZ's Halloween. He is a dick to everyone and becomes an unlikeable character. The only time he finds out Michael is even back is towards the end of the movie. The rest of the movie before then was just him doing book signings, appearing on a talk show with a famous musician (not giving away who), and doing a press conference. Loomis, in the original series, served as the one relating to everyone in Haddonfield who Michael was and why he was coming back, even though everyone doubted him and thought he was a fool. In this, he is just a sleazy jerk who happened to have the news on at the right time.

Michael has become more sadistic as if he is slowly going down a path of insanity. The killings are more brutal (which I don't mind. It IS a horror movie after all) but with each stab Michael makes a weird grunting sound that is so over-exaggerated it's comical when you hear it. A lot of the killings it was hard to determine what was actually going on. He also rarely wears the mask, which is a shame because I loved the mask in the remake. Scenes like this image show Michael without a mask and all you see is a big gnarly beard sticking out of that hood, when they show his face. He also seems to know exactly where Laurie is and who she hangs out with despite never showing him stalk Laurie.

Michael also has visions of his mother (Sheri Moon Zombie) who is ghost white and standing next to a white horse in the movie. There's really no point to her being in the movie except to occasionally tell Michael to kill and that they'll be a family soon again. The scenes with her are just, simply put, stupid.

Laurie is also slowly going insane as well because of the first movie. She's having nightmares, is on prescription meds, seeing a shrink, etc. This I'm alright with as well as I'd expect her to be going through all this. She reads something in Loomis' book (those who know the Halloween series knows what she learns) and her reaction to it is not believable at all. She just screams "Fuck!" over and over, freaks out inside her car and then later on drives still screaming obscenities. She then decides to go out to a party and get drunk because she's always been "the good girl" and it's "never gotten her anywhere". I will give her credit, she's able to sober up pretty damn quick though. At the end, her confrontation with Michael is just bizarre since she's gone off the deep end.

The two people that salvage this movie a bit were Brad Dourif and Danielle Harris, Sheriff and Annie Brackett. They both did a great job and had some good moments in the movie. Unfortunately, they didn't get a chance to put their talents to good use.

The movie ends with an opening for Rob to make a 3rd movie if he so wishes. I won't explain how though. Overall, the movie had some good elements to it (showing Michael's savageness, the few parts of the story that HAD potential) but as a whole it deviates from telling a story and is just a bad movie. Theres no suspense like in the original Halloween movies or even in the remake. I was bored with this movie.

I hope this answers some questions and doesn't give too much of this movie away. Like I said, I was disappointed with it and to me it did not seem like a "Halloween" movie.
