HalfLife Lockups

I have been playing halflife recently, and I keep getting the same problem. I'll play for like 10 minutes, and it'll be fine, but all the sudden it will freeze, always when a sound is played, and the sound will keep repeating itself. I have to hit the restart button to get out. I don't know what's wrong, I have the latest version of halflife, and all my drivers are updated.

Here's my specs

Athlon 700
Abit KA7
Geforce DDR (det 3)
SB Live Value (liveware 3)
128mb Infineon pc133

try turning off hardware sound if you're using it. And if that doesn't work then try playing with the sound off completely to see if that's the problem.

You try playing another game that has sound? If it crashes in that game as well then there's something wrong with your sound card. maybe it's conflicting with another device. Also check to see if you have EAX or A3D turned on or off.

Other games with sound work fine, and EAX and A3D aren't on. I haven't tried it with the sound of, but I will soon.

Try switching to AGP 1x, if you havent already. I have a very similar rig, and this solved the problem for me. The performance hit was not noticeable, to my eyes.

Hope this helps.
