make sure you add -console to the command line so that it looks something like this: "hl.exe -console"

Start HL with the command line option -console (ie. "HL.exe -console -game cstrike" for CounterStrike). That should do the trick.

okay, can you point me to the direction of how to do this, it's easy to find the Hl.exe but should I just rename it? doens' seem right and I can't seem to edit this file....

Try the Sierra website. Sounds like a gaf I know but there's a ton of data there. I had to tweak an older copy of Half-Life for someone recently (3-D mode wouldn't engage properly) and they had the specific fix on file. Also make sure you have all of the latest patches and drivers.

Ah, you misunderstood - you don't rename the file. Create a shortcut by dragging HL.exe somewhere with the right mouse, then select the properties of the shortcut. There should be a line like E:\HL\HL.exe in the properties dialog. Now just add " -console" to that line and start the game by using that shortcut.

Find the Half-Life/cstrike directory-inside you will find the file "config.cfg"

Open this file and find the line that SHOULD read...
bind "~" "toggleconsole" <--exactly like this

If it reads anything other than i listed fix it, then save...
