Halflife 2 is royally sucking

the very life out of me.

Its easier than I expected, but can see playing it over since I am hauling butt through the levels and not paying a whole lot attention.

Perhaps that's why it sucks. Heck if you play around with the environments - which is what the game is made for - you'll get alot more enjoyment from the game.

Did you start out on easy or normal?

I took my time going through the game, still finished it yesterday, I was surpised there was only one tough spot, either that I made it tough by choosing a certain action.

Switch difficulty to hard. I do believe the AI becomes significantly smarter.

normal, but as Insomniak suggests, I'm doing it again later with a tougher setting.

I started on normal and played about 2.5 hours of game, then decided to restart on hard. I am glad I did. Hard has been the perfect setting.

Is hard the highest difficulty setting, or is there something equivalent to nightmare?

You can change difficulty settings without restarting your current game. Just go to the options menu. 😉
