Does this come with HL1. And if not, why do they not call this the Bronze version?

Bronze and gold is nomenclature for the Steam versions not retail. This would be the bronze if you bought it off Steam. It's 5 CD's with HL2, CS: Source and a quick reference card.

IMO you don't have anything to worry about with this being the import version. I have bought many games from gogamer that were the international version A.K.A. Import....whatever. The box may be slightly different than the official US version artwork wise and the product key may be located in a different location. i.e. the Doom III import had the cd key on the manual instead of of the back of the jewel case on the insert, at least that's how my friends Doom III was. The game is exactly the same so no need to worry!

Yeah, I bought Rome Total War import a while ago. Exact same game basically. I think the game reviewer quotes and awards were different and that's it.

If anyone is in the OC area you can just go pick it up and save on shipping! They're located in Mission Viejo I believe, picked up 6 copies of Warcraft 3 from them for me and my friends when it first came out and they had the best price.

GoGamer is a little shady on this, but here is how they do it. They are able to get lower prices because they buy the Canadian or European (English) version of the game. That's all it is. It is legal and all, it is just game costs less in other countries than the USA.

Ok here's the skinny regarding graphics cards. I've tried running HL2 with a Ge4 MX440 and Ge2 Ti200 and it runs over 100+ rates flawlessly except during firefights it dips; no skippage though. I run on an XP 2000+. The reason behind this is that these older gen cards use DirectX 7 protocols which as opposed the current gen Ge6's which use DirectX 9 which benefits from enhanced water effects and the like. I know this since if you run the Video Stress Test under CS-Source and are using 7, all the models end up being black whereas 9 users actually see the quant visual effects. Also from what I hear, outside effects tax your GPU and inside effects tax the CPU. Teh verdict is that if you can deal with it the less visual effects (I know I can) then upgrading your card just for HL2 is pointless.

Thanks. I might get the silver one unless the CE comes with HL1 Source. I never finished that game when Steam was in beta and I had never played it before.

Thanks Silex and Shiz. I have an XP 2600+ with 1gb RAM. I'm not sure if I'm ready for another card yet but if I were to buy one, which one would you recommend.

Until you have expereinced it with DX9 then it's hard to grasp how much more rich of an experience it is. I am about 3/4 ofthe way through and it has been mind-blowing how immersive it is with DX9. It flows beautifully on my 6800 BTW 😉

Arg--I don't worry about the contents of the CD, but with steam, I don't know if I have a ton of confidence that this version is going to work...

...but I bought it anyway...too good to turn down. I almost bought the special edition from them earlier in the week..glad I waited.

Yes it will work. If didn't they wouldn't be selling it because it would be worthless.

..... got the collector's edition. this better work online!

It should work fine. The pirates are spreading all types of info because they hate this system because it makes the game harder to steal.

Another note on the "international versions" GoGamer often sells - many times the only difference in the packaging is that the internation versions come in a DVD hard case (even if the game is on CD), rather than a cardboard retail box. I kind of like this better, storage space-wise ...
