Half off Kodak DC4800 lens kit

I just received my Kodak EKTANAR lens kit from centre.net.au . This site was mentioned a while ago and I decided to order from them. I paid $90.79US including shipping. I ordered the kit this past Sunday 6/04, they shipped Monday 6/05, I received them Saturday 6/09. The company is in Australia. The price on there site is AU$148.50 (AU=Australian dollars) AU$21.00 shipping. No tax is charged for shipments outside of Australia. If I would have ordered from the Kodak website it would have cost me $172.16 US including S/H and tax. These are the EXACT same lenses that are sold on the Kodak site (CAT 801 5877) but at half the cost! They are packaged for International sales i.e. words in many languages. However they carry a US and international warranty. The person (Vasil) whom I corresponded with prior to ordering was very helpful and put me at ease about ordering from his company. This is the cheapest price that I have found for these lenses almost worth ordering more to sell on E*ay.

Now all I need is the FREE lens adapter, that we are supposed to get for registering our cameras, so that I can use my new lenses!

Hope I wasn't too long winded...

I don't remember the exact amount. But last time I checked DC4800 the camera was priced significantly cheaper in Germany. It might be a good idea to check the price overseas for a good deal.

I called Kodak on another matter, and while I had the guy on the phone I asked him what the story was on the adaptors. He said they were backordered, but as long as I registered I would be receiving one. I bought my DC4800 in mid March and received my lens adaptor last week. It seems to fit well on the camera, and makes me want to order some lenses...

re adapters: gotta postcard from Kodak stating they were on backorder because of the huge demand..go figure😎

Twister00: sweet price... I'm considering this - just order my DC4800 though so I want to play with it and make sure we see eye to eye 🙂)) before ordering a lense kit. Is there a write up anywhere with all the details on the lense kit and sample pictures? I'm going to check the Kodak site but would be cool if there was a non-kodak.com review somewhere...

edit: oh yeah, for anyone looking for the best deal on the DC4800 at the moment do the ebates + PhotoAlley.com father's day sale + kodak rebate deal. Comes to about $376 if you don't get charged tax (only 3 states do get charged tax it would appear).

Here are a few links. The first is to some photos and the other is user reviews.

Look at both sports and lanscape photos. This person also ordered from Centre.com

Thanks! I think I'll buy the lense adaptor for $12.50 AU too as it sounds like the delay is pretty long for getting the free one from Kodak...

Hrm, the fototime.com link isn't coming up. Maybe they are having problems?

I got a post card about a week or so ago saying that the adapters would be out within a month. However, for $6.50 US it might be worth ordering 1 from Centre.

this seems like a great price, but i just ordered my dc4800 yesterday so i have to wait and try it out before i start buying accessories...

I ordered the Lens Kit and the Lens Adaptor from Centre yesterday. They sent me an e-mail to confirm shipping charges. AU$44 for shipping. Either their shipping rates when up or the shipping for the lens adaptor more than doubled the total. I'm responding back via e-mail and I'll let everyone know what I find out.

Sorry! I should clarify something about my shipping rates. I actually ordered 2 sets of lenses. Then when I was posting, I just divided the total cost in half.

1 Kodak Lens Kit For DC4800 Qty 2 Price AU$297.00
Shipping AU$42.00 Total AU$339.00

I should not have divided the shipping cost in half since the initial cost is almost always more than when you add other items. Remember though, AU$44.00 is about $23.00 US.

Total approx. cost for Lenses, adapter and S/H would be about $107.00US. Which is still a better deal than anything I was able to find.

Twister00, Thanks for the clarification. The folks in Australia are just getting up in the morning, so I'm not surprised that they have not responded back to me yet. I am going to go ahead and confirm my order. I don't think the lens adapter is adding too much to the shipping costs. If they get back to me on the shipping for just the single lens kit, I will post it immediately.

i read on another site that that place in Australia mighthave been hacked, so anyone who ordered there watch yur credit card statements

quote
It appears some hackers have defaced centre.net.au. Apparently their server wasn't up to snuff on security updates. If you ordered from them you might want to watch the activity on your credit card just in case - hopefully centre.net.au will email all customers letting them know if credit card information has been comprimised. My intent is not to cause alarm but simply to warn you - I have been browsing their site to purchase some DC4800 accessories and was surprised to come to the modified page today. Note that just because their home page has been defaced it doesn't necessarily mean that the intruders have accessed order information!

Here is an email sent to me regarding centre.net.au

Dear Twister,

The Web site has been violated, however the databases are behind 2
firewalls, and have not been touched. We have not lost any information or have had any corrupted.

The effect is the equivalent of hoods painting graffiti all over the
front of the shop. WE are currrently in the process of re painting the front.

Best regards

The Kodak DC4800 Lens Kit is now on sale at the Kodak Online Store for $99. This is not as cheap as the Australian source discussed in this thread but it is a good price and you get a 30-day return option. I read a message from someone else who ordered from Australia then decided he wanted some more specialized lenses but couldn't return them because he had opened the box.

The individual lenses are marked down ad the Kodak site too.

$99.99 directly from Kodak is Great!! Sometimes Kodak have promotion code such as free shipping or % discount. I wonder if there's any out there that can be used with the lens kit.

I was going to get the dc4800 but decided on the Olympus d-460...but now I'm regretting it because of the lens options the dc4800 has and also the manual controls...oh well I'll get one with at least 10x zoom in a few months... 😛

I would also like this lens kit for my camara, but another discount would be great!
If anyone finds one, PM me 🙂

centre.net.au has some other hot deals - batteries for $27, lens pen cleaner $5, lens thread adaptor $6 (so you don't have to wait for kodak).

edit: oh yeah, no I'm not affiliated in any way! Just happen to have got a DC4800 and I'm shopping for some deals. Just posted my breakdown in the new PhotoAlley thread of a good centre.net.au order. Haven't ordered yet...
