Half Life realism and immersion...

Just been watching all the Half Life bink movies.

They are excellent. The main thing that impresses me is the whole world/environment its so realistic and organic. Much like Max Payne you can interact with most of the environment in some way. In hl2 it seems you can do this to an even greater extent and all but move and knock over anything that isn't a solid wall. This makes for a much more life like feel to the game.

I loved the part in the traptown movie where the enemy soldier is firing through the window and cans and other debris are flying everywhere, and it isn't just sprites getting thrown around. It's real world objects.

In regards to the trap town video where everyone gets knocked over. If gordon isn't firing at them they should have the sense to duck while not under fire/pressure. (I think I'm getting greedy for realism now)

Introducing a realistic feeling physics engine to the game just adds so much on it's own. The gorgeous women 8) and the all the rest is a bonus. Personally I can't wait to loose myself in this game.

Whats everyone elses main impression from these movies?

I always wait for the finished (and patched) game before making any judgements.

But I am looking forward to HLII (much much more than DoomIII) . . . only really bad reviews will make me reconsider not buying it the day it is released.

I think the movies look awesome but I've never been a fan of fighting against the undead or any monsters. I thought that fighting those zombie scientists in the original HL was really boring. I mainly look forward to all the games that will be based off the HL engine. Perhaps another Medal of Honor or even Maxy Payne?

Max Payne 2 is already in development, and I believe it is using an improved version of the Max FX engine. According to what I've read, both HL2 and MP2 will be using the same physics engine, Havoc.
