half life probs

im having a major prob with half life just now.

the game itsself seems to be running fine but whenever i press escape to get into the menu system it just comes up a blank black screen.

needless to say this is mighty annoying as i cant easily change any settins or save games (aside from using the ingame hot keys)

any ideas on what could be up an how to fix it?

im running win2k sp2 and a geforce2 gts card with 23.11 drivers.

so you can use the "hotkeys" but when you move your mouse over it doesnt work?

i can use the f keys within the game to quicksave it etc but the menu system doesnt come up why i press escape, just a blank black screen.

strangely enuf it works fine in open gl mode, just not in direct 3d mode. strange...

i guess running it in open gl isnt much of a problem, i just assumed that d3d mite be a bit faster with the newest optimised detonators. does anyone have any ideas which is faster, or wether the fps will be pretty much the same between the two?

the fps will not differ that much. Opengl is faster on my computer (might not be on yours). I like opengl because when i'm playing on a higher resolution it runs faster than direct x (just for my coputer🙂 )
