I really want to play this before 2, which I think I'll end up getting.

1) Point being, should I play the first one just so I know the story?

2) How long does it take to go throguh say at the medium difficulty setting?

if you can get it really cheap then sure why not, but then you can also get hl:source with your hl2 purchace and play it using the new engine :)

but yes, its worth it since its an awsome game

When it first came out in 1998 I beat it in just a few days of constant playing. I basically played Hlaf-Life for 4 days straight with breaks to eat and go to the bathroom.

If you purchase the Silver edition or greater via Source you'll have access to the first Half Life 1 and the upcoming Half Life 1: Source. I'd suggest waiting until the HL: Source port is complete though, it will probably look and play much better.

If you buy the Silver version or better (I think), it comes with HL: Source, which is the original Half-Life redone in the Source engine (doesn't look a ton better, but in this case it would be worth it).

I'm in the same boat. I thought about playing the first one again since I never played it more than a couple of hours. As I started, I figured I'd just wait and play it on the Source engine.

You get HL 1 immediately if you buy HL2 through Steam. HL 1 on the new Source engine will be ready when HL2 is released. You'll get them all if you go Silver or Gold.

Half-Life: Source may not be available when HL2 comes out, but you will still be able to play the original HL. There is no set release date for any of the Source products, besides the obvious "after HL2 is out."

Why wouldn't they release it the day Hl2 comes out?

I kinda want hte "true original". Partly for nastalgic reasons. I don't want "cool lights" and hte such. I jsut want to see whath te original game is truely like. From what I understand, it's the story that makes it great, not hte graphics.

Anyways. Jsut my 2 cents. Thanks for all the help. Now it's time to find The original for cheap....where to find it ... hrmmm.

I also might wait till winter as I usually have less chores to do ;)

are you not listening to anything they are telling you? if YOU buy the SILVER package (or GOLD) from steam online you get HALF-LIFE 1 IMMEDIATELY available to download. you ALSO get Counter-Strike:Source IMMEDIATELY. You get HL1:Source, HL2, and DOD:Source once HL2 is released to stores.
