Half-Life locking up on 1900+

XP1900+ on an 8KHA+ with 256 megs of PC2100.
It runs at 1.6 gigs perfectly until I happen to load up Half-Life (version 1108). After just a few seconds, it locks the machine up tight. If I jumper it down to 1.2 gigs, it runs just fine. I have changed video cards, and that didn't change anything. I had a cheap-o 8 meg agp, and upgraded to an nVidia Vanta 16 meg agp. Help! Any suggestions? I'm considering a bios update, but I know several people who have the same configuration and don't experience this problem.

Thanks.😕

Half-Life (or any 3D game) really heats up the CPU... It might be that your cooling solution is not up to snuff.

other suggestions:

Check those BIOS settings

-Disable Video RAM Shadowing
-Disable Video BIOS Cache
-ensure RAM settings are stock (ie: CL=2.5, etc...)

Afterthought:

If you don't have a Power Supply that is 350W, that might limit you to lower speeds ??? (This one's a long shot)
