But still.....Why Rewrite 1/3 of the source code?? What will it accomplish by a rewrite just because someone stole just part of it??? I think this is just a BS reason for them to push back the release date.

To stop cheaters and hackers. They want people to play online, and they know cheaters have kept people from playing HL1 online, so they want to stop that from happening with HL2

I don't play online, I have dialup still. I never play online. So this game is only gear toward online players? This does not make any sense. Maybe there was no hackers. They just did not complete the game as planned and blame it on the hackers. Since when does game developers became politicians?
This is just another way to avoid competition since there will be a lot new games out this Xmas. Maybe HL2 is not that great and doing this will avoid competitions, and therefore maximize profit.

Last month, VU games postponed the release of "Half-Life II" from Sept. 30 to "an unspecified holiday release."

They forgot to mention that the unspecified holiday was Easter.

Well then i guess they werent wrong, lol.

LOL,,,same here

all i gotta say is "HAHAHA" in all the people faces who said, "Is my system up or critque me pc for hl2" rofl hah if this is true.

CNN/Money has updated the article stating that maps, textures and other features of the game had also been stolen, saying that now a somewhat playable part of the game is now floating around on the net.... link...

What a bummer.... :|

I think the source code release is just an excuse for a delay in it. Its just like the standard website message from the owner saying his hard drive was wiped and he doesn't have any of the data, its happened on many sites and they claim they would like to bring it up again someday, but that never happens, lol.

I think Doom 3's release date as well as Nvidia's current situation both have affected this...

I have information that the leak of source code of HL2 is a terrorist act by AL-QAIDA and Sadam Hussein!!!😛
They want the source code so their children can play first HL2 before the Americans do.
🙂

well, at least I can save up for the top GFX card until then! Besides, my birthday is in April!! Sux chowda tho...

hey maybe i'll be able to pass the first semester of college now!!! 🙂 I thought HL2 might distract me, but since its delayed i can concentrate on my classes.

valve will have to release some sort of statement in response to this. but if it does get delayed, what a joke. lying about the release up until the last minute (aka gaining publicity)...

the person who might me most upset is id. it's now possible that d3 and hl2 get released near the same time, but valve has effectively stole id's thunder through these gimmicks.

At least when ID makes release dates, they are very tenative and they say if it's not done then, it's not going to be released then, instead of making several release promises they cant keep like valve has been doing. Im going to have to cancel my preorder, because there is no way i'll have something preordered for this long.

according to this article there is a playable (compiled from the stolen source) version out NOW and circulating on the net.

Question is how tru the statement "only a third of the source was stolen" really is......i dont know about that leaked HL2, maybe it's only a level or so...but at least it's 'playable'. (see article)

Valve must be d**bf***d if they delay their game for four more months while every hacker and trader already has it and peope l33ch it off the net and play it already....at least in parts.

So what happens when the code is stolen again before April? 😀 Maybe that's why Duke Nukem Forever never came out... Darn Al-Qaeda! (and saddam!)

This is pure BullSh!t. Come on, They had No Backup of the code. Great operation there. Bet you anything Nvidia paid them to delay the release while they "Rework" their chipsets.
It's not about physically lost code. It's about cheating. And how much money do you think NVidia has anyway?

I posted this over in the HL2 thread in the Software forums, and I know most of you are afraid leave the Hardware forum, so I'll post it again here.

Please read the following I received from an .NFO file with the latest Prerelease patch. I did not write this, only copying and pasting from what was released. "Anonymous" is trying to tell the truth about Valve.

Well, I forgot to update you with the freshest stuff from Valvesoftware. Detonator-52.13-ANON got leaked today, its the new NVidia drivers for HL2, though i have no fancy video card to test the driver on.

Btw., for those of you still thinking -ANON is a group, i have to say it isnt. Its just Anonymous.

To all those saying HL2 was delayed because of the hacking action, ill just remind you that what was leaked is what Valve has, nothing more and nothing less, so its pretty good to understand it wasnt finished yet.

Also I'd like to point out the E3 was one big fake by Valve. Ever tried to kill that soldier in physicstown ? Notice the door will still get kicked ? No scripted sequences ?

To everyone saying this is no Beta: I'd like to point out that THIS is what you wanted Valve to release on 9/30/03, theres no such thing as a much better release in Valves network!
To Valve: I suggest you stop lying to your customers about how much was stolen/compromised, or I'll have to release everything just to prove my point. And you know what you got, as I do.
