Okay, for some strange reason, my gamma settings in Control Panel->Display Properties for my NVIDIA TNT2 ULTRA w/ 6.31 Win2k drivers, DOES NOT AFFECT HALF LIFE AT ALL.

Before I run Half Life(openGL mode) I boost the gamma up in Win2k. Then when i enter the game, it's dark. SO...when I exit the game, guess what? My gamma settings are gone and the desktop looks as if I didn't touch my gamma settings at all!

This process worked perfectly in Windows98, so I have no idea why it doesn't work for Windows 2000.

Open up the config.cfg file for whatever game you'll be playing.

Single player: \Sierra\Half-Life\valve\config.cfg

Counter-Strike: \Sierra\Half-Life\cstrike\config.cfg

TeamFortress: \Sierra\Half-Life\tfc\config.cfg

etc, etc...

Open up the config and scroll until you find the gamma setting. Change it to something higher. Mine's set to 3 for single player and 3.5 for CS. Fiddle around with it until you're satisfied. You can change this setting from within the game by typing "gamma #" in the console (without the quotes), where # is the gamma setting.

NOTE: When changing the gamma from within the game, the settings won't take effect without a video restart (such as a map change or server reconnect).
