half-life/cs

I dont play much, but do like to play occasionally.. however, I am at home on a LAN setup w/ a DSL Modem and a Netgear RT314.. If I wanted to play half-life or cs what ports or whatever would i have to open so that I could play?? anybody??

I have the same router and you shouldn't have to change any of the settings in order to play.

You should be able to play just fine. If you are having problems that you think are the router's doing, check netgear's site. I have the same router as you but I'm on cable and I had to download a firmware upgrade just to be able to play Half-Life online

See, the only problem with that advice is that he doesn't need to do any of that. :)

He should probably have the newest firmware anyway, but I have the same router and don't have to do anything to play half-life or CS.

hey guys, thanks for the tips.. when i try to join a game or connect to a server.. .this is the error i get "you cannot connect to a server which is operating under a different protocol version." ... does that mean that i just need to update it or what?? thanks again...
