Half-Life CD key doesn't work

datalink7

Hi all,

I lost my half life CD, but still had the key. So I bought a new half life cd. This gave me a new key. I used the new one on my computer, and used the old one on my dads, using the new cd to install on both computers.

Mine works fine, with the new key. When my dad tries to play online, it says "invalid cd key."

Does certain keys only work with certain cd's?

Are you both trying to play at the same time through a router? It may not allow simultaneous connections from one IP.

You can definetely have multiple connections from one ip (as I do it), my big problem is that when I play CS (I don't know about the other mods) Half-life repeatedly gives me a WON authentication unsuccessful message. I solve this by quitting out and trying to connect to the server again. Sometimes I have to do this a LOT but it always works in the end.

Quite true.

Try clearing out the cd key and putting it in again. It is best done trough regedit thusly:

Start/Run, type REGEDIT, press enter

Go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Half-Life\Settings

double click on Key

type in new CD key.

If it still doesn't work, try uninstalling the game and installing it again.
You never lent this CD/CD key to anyone , right?

Thanks all, I'll try your suggestions.

I lent the CD to some friends at my dorm so we could play over a LAN (that is how I "lost" the CD actually... I never got it back), but I never gave out my CD-Key.
