Half Life auto-update help!!!

I just bought Half Life at CompUSA so I installed it. During the installation, it asked if I wanted to run AutoUpdate so I did and it then downloaded a huge 57MB file. After it was done downloading, in started installing and when it asked where I wanted to install it, I just hit the next button like I always do the problem is, the default installation directory was the root of the C: drive. It then told me I couldn't install it a root of a hard drive and asked me to install it somewhere else. My question is, where does this thing ussally install? When I tried to install it in the Sierra folder, it told me everything would be over-written so I was kinda freaked out by it.
