Half-Life 3 Trolling?

A photo posted on Twitter by Uber Entertainment's Chandana Ekanayake shows a t-shirt with a Half-Life 3 logo, saying: "All I'm saying is I saw this at a local game developer event worn by a Valve employee." Whether this is significant, or just trolling is not clear yet. The two hash tags he uses for this are #HalfLife3 and #ValveTrolling. Thanks Computer and Video Games. 😛

I think it's fake. If you look at the Half-Life 2 logo, it has the lambda as the main character and the 2 as a superscript. This shirt is reversed from that convention.

That could be intentional -- a smaller "3" up on that lobe could be more easily missed or otherwise not noticed.

Not holding my breath in any event, though.

HL3 obviously exists in some form or another at this point. It's just a question of WHEN we'll ever see it. I'd say next Fall sometime seems likely.

Ya, who knows maybe not even next FALL slick51, Maybe in 2013 or 2014

It has to be early in development,,, I would think.... If its a one year project then Ill pass on the game. But if they spent a few years making it then its worth getting....

I pretty much believe that Half-Life 3 involves an entirely new engine, Source has been great but it's getting seriously dated. This could be contributing to the wait.

Seems like Valve has been doing 1 game a year for the last few years. CSGO next year, and HL3 the year after?

LOL Actually, I didnt say a new game, just a game. But how is L4D2 and MW3, which are sequels, not considered new games, while HL3 is?

Valve seems more business minded these days, so I think they'll release HL3 in 2013 just because its on a project managers schedule. Not too many companies sport the "When its done" mantra these days.

A custom t-shirt is a cheap way to get some hits on a website. If Valve were anywhere near releasing HL3 they'd be hyping it already.

HL always had the "when its done" mantra. :colbert:

I'm talking about the internal schedule Valve has. I'm sure nowadays they are better about project management then in the past. They have been releasing games on a yearly basis since L4D1. They are also running out of IPs to rev, so after CS, HL is the only one left. 😛

But it might well be delayed after its initial announcement anyhow. Additionally, Half-Life 3 won't run on a new engine, at best it'll be yet another updated version of the Source engine.

Not necessarily a bad thing, IMO. Half Life used an updated Quake 2 engine, but looked better than any other Quake 2 based title at the time. The Source engine is pretty damn good.

Only thing that worries me is all the damn reload screens in Portal 2. In a game like HL3 a loading screen every 100ft can be a deal breaker.

They took the time to completely rewrite and rerecord the script for Portal 2. They've been putting out games regularly because they work hard. Not because they're necessarily any better at project management or making schedules.

HL2 didn't have as many loading screens, but that is just how the engine works.

In Portal 2 the screens were not too bad and I am using an ancient HDD.

Actually, looking back at their releases they have been releasing at least one game a year since the beginning. Not all done by Valve proper, but bought by Valve. So I guess nothing has changed in this regard. Just seems like the gaps between releases are much longer.

It didnt, but Portal 2 looked much better than HL2. The loading was strange in Portal 2...for the first set of puzzles it loaded every puzzle, but then in the Cave Johnson narrated part, the levels didnt load as much. But really, levels shouldnt load as frequently as they do in source games. The duration of the loading in Portal 2 wasnt that long, but it was so frequent that it was annoying.

The real question is what has valve been wasting time on the paste 4 years? Their engine hasn't improved much. Portal 2 and hl2 are both sequals.. I think they just have a lazy team.

So, they've been putting out one game a year, but the gaps between games is larger. Do any good hallucinogens lately?
