I am not much of a gamer. My gaming is pretty much limited to Madden and other sports games. A friend of mine is trying to convince me to buy HL2. I have never played the original game. Can you play HL2 without ever having played the original?

Playing the original isn't necessary but definitely recommended. PC Gamer STILL gave it #1 game of all time recently, even up against recent titles like D3 and HL2.
 
you can get hl2 collectors edition for 50 bucks online so i think it's worth the money.

if not, try to pick up the normal edition for 30 bucks.

check hot deals for the deal i'm talking about

I just bought it at Walmart.
 
It's worth it if just for CS: Source. In fact, I don't play HL2 any more because I get motion sickness everytime I play. 🙁
 
HL2 will be the best 18-20 hours of your gaming life. I beat it in about 16 the first time and then started to play through it again before the weekend was over.
