waiting that long is just pure madness

i personally have to wait for next week when my vido card comes in for my new rig and im crying...

In later levels with the buggy, you fps will drop much lower.

My Rig is in Sig under Box.

playing at 1024x768

Driver Settings:
2xAA
8xAF
AI Advanced
Vsync always off

In game Settings:
All at the highest except AA - None,AF - Trilinear,Vsync - Disabled, Water reflections - Reflect World, there didn't seem to be any difference between this and reflect all, so.

Played decent during those beginning levels, but then with the buggy, it dropped to uncomfortable numbers, almost took the 800x600 plunge, but I don't think I could sacrifice the IQ.

Video Stress Test Average: 43

Disable your internet (either unplug the cable or just disable the network connection) and then open up Steam. It will ask you if you want to run Steam in offline mode (click Yes). Voila, play HL2 to your heart's content 🙂 .

Yep, I'm at 1280X1024, 2xAA, 16xAF on an X800 Pro and all was going buttery smooth until Mr. Buggy/Hovercraft met Mr. Agressive Helicopter; it definately fell into about the 30's, maybe even lower (very noticeable slowdown). After that section, things picked up again (framerate wise).

Well whoever has HL2 would you consider trying these drivers and posting results, they are *SUPPOSED* to be much better per Nvidia (so FWIW).

Nice pics avalon. The only thing that doesn't look as good in HL2 (as in DIII) from what i can see is the character models. The DIII ones were incredible.

The G-Man looked pretty incredible the one time I saw him. I've gotten past the buggy level, and it has gotten a bit laggy. I'd say I'm dropping down to 15FPS at points, but it's not too bad. Those damn helicopter ships are a pain. I wish there was a way to kill them :|
I'd try one of the newer catalyst drivers, but I can only use omegas if I wish to keep my pipes unlocked.
I think I can also unlock them with rivatuner and still use catalyst drivers, but I'm not exactly positive.
If anyone knows of a way, I'll give it a try.

I really hope that doesn't become the norm... Also, have you already unlocked HL2 and it won't let you play with your network unplugged or are you unable to unlock it because you can't get on?

Ya, what crap. I cannot create an account on Steam. It says cannot contact autentication servers.

Steam is the biggest POS, just like Microshaft with its online avtivation.....

Nice benches Avalon  Should give me a good indication of what am gonna see with my system.
How much space does the game need by the way?

edit: by the way, you can use patched drivers to enable your 4 extra pipelines, they are based on the latest official cats 4.11 and are available at techpowerup.com, this way you won't need the Omegas. But I still prefer the Omegas myself, and I am wondering why is it taking so long for them to release new drivers.

I'll look into it...although, I must admit, I've gotten so comfortable to using the omegas, I don't want to go back 😀
They've given me everything I needed in one package...options, softmodding, a refreshlock tool, and an overclocking tool...good stuff.
I too am wondering what's taking them so long to update. They are usually on the ball with these things.

Currently, there are no standard timedemos for HL2 that I know of...I've just been running fraps and doing my thing.

Ugh, this boat chase scene is waaaay too long. I'm getting irritated. They give me a gun to kill the copter, then present me with invulnerable tanks. Thanks a bunch

Just saw some benches from TheInquirer, ATi really spanks nVidia in Half Life 2.
I guess the 6 million dollar "investment" did pay off.

As far as I'm aware, the 6 million was spent for vouchers and marketing, hence I got my HL2 for free. I'm pretty sure ATI paid for it one way or another...

Iv bench with my rig, except that till tuesday i have a X800 PRO instead of the 6800 gt.Here are the bench

1024 noaa/af all settings max. 101.fps
1024 4xaa/8xaf all setting max. 97.91
1280 4xaa/8xaf all settings max 77.90

I got sick of waiting for the new Omegas, so last night I decided to give the DNA drivers a try. They seem to be similar to the Omega drivers, in that they are tweaked for better performance and include additional options. The implementation is a bit different (options are built into a system tray app intead of the Control Panel), but all the functionality is there (AI, overclocking, geometry instancing, etc.) without having to use that annoying .NET Catalyst Control Center.

The DNA drivers based on the Cat 4.12 betas seemed to give me a slight boost over the latest Omegas. They are supposed to be optimized for HL2, and they also perform well in Doom3 -- the same as the Omegas for me. I'd say give them a try if you want a little HL2 boost.

I have to lower my settings. I get the "loading" freeze about every 2 minutes or so. Running nvidia 5900xt, gig o ram and a pretty new AMD proc.

no fps benchies yet, still very into playing the game.
