HL2 hands down as far as being a great game goes. Doom3 engine for the better graphics tech. HL2 has soooo much more mod support such as counter-strike and DoD, Quake has...? not much in comparison. Hey maybe we'll see Team Fortress 2 with it also.

I havent seen anything of halflife 2 yet. But ive seen some nice D3 vids. Game looks stunning. Andi have this feeling like the video(alpha) at e3 is very different then what the actuall game will be.

Both have their strong points.


-Doom 3 will wallop HL2 technology wise. The graphics WILL eat Half Life for breakfast...this isn't to say HL2 looks bad though!
-HL2 will have an infinitely better story line.
-Doom 3 however will be suspenseful and will probably scare the crap out of you. It's also dark, gory, satanic, all that fun stuff for good wholesome gaming!
-Bottom line is both games will rock for their own reasons

I've never been a really big fan of the Doom series so I voted for Half-Life 2. The original Half-Life was a great game and I'm sure this one will be even greater. They said it's going to be seperated into 12 chapters and that it will take about 3-4 hours to finish one. 12 * 4 = ~48 hours of gameplay!

awesome. games have been getting shorter and shorter. looks like hl2 won't be following the pattern.

that's so bias, it's like saying Intel is a lightyear ahead of amd. In my opinion, the screenshots showed both to be graphically amazing, with Doom3 having a slight upper hand. With that said, Halflife may not look better than Quake3, but had more appealing gameplay to me, and I think that's what the situation will be again.

Considering the original HL used a heavily modified q1 engine...I doubt they'd try and release a sequel using the same engine.

Doom III will be a nice single player with flashy graphics, but after you beat the game, that's it....very limited multiplayer

Half-Life 2 wil have a kick ass single player with damn good grapics AND a kick ass multiplayer front. Not to mention the slew of mods which will rock ass (TF2, CS2, etc.)

Doom 3 will be owned if it comes out before HL2. If it comes out after, no one will buy it because HL2 will already be out...Basically it'll be a lose-lose situation. Only if they had put Doom 3 out before news of HL2 got out...

Some of you guys are idiots about computer games...its ok to be a fan of a company, or a game, but how about staying objective?

How about having some facts before you rant about something?

Half-Life 2 uses a brand-new, in-house engine. They have been working on this game since 1998. It is coming out Sept 30, 2003.


Doom 3 uses a brand-new engine as well. If you know id games at all, you know this will be a huge seller, before or after Half LIfe 2 (my guess is right before Xmas, but we'll see).


Both games will help revitalize PC gaming as the clear power advantage in PC hardware gets more publicity.
