Half Life 2 Sound

Hey i recently bought Half Life 2 and whenever i get somewhere where there is a fairbit of sound it jumps a bit, i dont think that it could be my Vid card cuz i only just bought the 'ABIT RX800Pro' the rest of my specs are as follows

Antec 1800series with 430w truepower
P4 2.6 HT
Gigabyte 1000pro2
512Mb PC3200 Corsair RAM
Abit RX800pro Vid
the sound is onboard AC97

i think thats all u need to know to tell me if i have a prob,
let me know if u need anythin else

Thanks

There is a known problem with half life 2 and the stuttering sounds. It is being talked about all over the net.

thanks, i thought it might be my onboard sound and i was gonna get an audigy 2 pro or what ever it is but my mate a a comp shop says onboard sound these days is just fine.

not to help with your stuttering problem as such, more just a piece of sound advice (sorry for the pun..heh)
Getting a proper soundcard may help with your stuttering as the load is on the card not the system to do the sound as well as all the other things required to play a game.......many hands make light work if you want a suitable phrase.......but also the quality of onboard sound is nowhere near as good as a decent quality soundcard (creative/M-audio for a home user level or Yamaha for a studio/home musicmaker enthusiast)
However if you only have computer speakers (regardless of whether they are Creative, Logitech or whatever) and only play games/listen to MP3's the you probably wont notice too much difference...
If you have proper Hifi quality kit hooked up then you will definitely notice the benefits....specially if you like surround sound music (DVD-A discs are fantastic, REMS Automatic For the People is just astounding in surround sound)
Hope this helps 🙂
