I'm wondering what rig was used to play halflife-2 at E3, and what kind of graphics hardware Halflife-2 will need to run.

Does anyone know anything about minimum requirements yet?

Halflife 2 uses the source engine to run the game. It's very scalable and can even run on a dx 6 system with a tnt with the visuals turned way down. E3 demo was run on a 2ghz p4 with a geforce 4ti 4200. The game is optimised for Ati cards and to take full advantage of the directx 9 features you'll need a 9700 pro/ 9800 pro or simular geforce fx card.

Sept 30 is the release date..... sweeeeet

No kidding! Ti4200 and 2GHZ P4?

A Radeon 9700 NP and a P4 2.8 will eat that game alive, then! SWEET!

Too bad the 9700 doesn't play nice with the canterwood mobo's.

Not exactely.
The Video Card used was a Radeon 9800Pro 256mb. Thats why ATI hyped alot about E3, cos HL2 was running on their hardware.
Dunno about the CPU/Mem

I thought I remember reading/hearing it was P4 3.06Ghz and a Radeon 97 or 9800. That I cant remember. But I doubt they would run their game on older hardware. Although, it would be cool as a marketing stunt to run a game that looks that good on a slower PC...but I think it was Radeon. In fact, it would have to be b/c I am sure that was running under DX9.

PS. But HL2 will run on older machines. No worries there.

i could have sweared that i definitely heard the guy running the HL2 demo said that they are running a ATI 9700PRO. then i told my friend while watching the demo clip and telling my friend that "damn, we'll have to fork out like $200 for a 9700"

i watched the demo that you can DL

ok i was wrong:

from www.tomshardware.com:

"Last year at E3 the folks at ATI were showing Doom III in their booth running on the Radeon 9700 Pro. This year they have already moved beyond Doom III with their exclusive preview of Half-Life 2. The 30 minute presentation of Half-Life 2 was a big draw, with some attendees waiting over four hours for the chance to sit through this incredible demo running on the new ATI Radeon 9800 Pro."

definitely not a 4200.

damn, now it's $300 to play HL2!!! not to mention a nice CPU too!

and gary i believe they were running the demo on a giant screen of some sort in a small room

A very very large one.

Its likely to have been a project screen because you can get those up to 1024x768, or it could have just been a big HD tv...

No, actually they used a whole mess of those side by side into a twisted looking video wall

gary we really don't know. does it matter?

im guessing they used some sort of plasma display, you don't expect they did it as genomecop said don't ya? and they're not gonna buy a jumbotron like the ones in stadiums would they?

maybe just a cheap 52 inch $8000 plasma?

I thought it was a projector. Cos on the E3 Video, the actual screen looks slightly washed out, on the bits where the thing is displayed. A projector is probably what they used thinking about it. Otherwise they would`nt have made the room dark. No point having a dark room if they were using a CRT/TFT/Plasma.

Just looked at the video...was pretty good. But i think it wont be as good as the original, looks like gameplay is more geared toward FPS and maybe gameplay has been sacrificed for graphics.

"While the new engine has all sorts of fancy features, it's still designed to scale and work on lower-end machines. Apparently a 700mhz processor and a video card capable of running DX6 is enough, although a 2ghz with a GeForce4 is recommended. Rumors about NVidia or ATI exclusivity are unfounded."

as found here

Also states that it ships in about 100 days.

Makes sense to make the game scalable to ensure that a large group of computer owners can and will buy the game.
