I try to load the game but it hangs on the loading screen before the vgui and after a while, crashes to my desktop. It's the same thing for HL:Source.

Does anyone else have this problem? It sucks waiting until 1am only to find out you play can't one of the most anticipated games of the year :(

Same problem with me. I didn't have the patience to wait for a crash. But it won't let anything minimize it while it's on it's Loading screen, so you're stuck. I managed to get out by restarting the computer, hitting the start menu key, then up, then enter, then enter again. Aside from a hard reset, that's all you can do.

I think I waited 5 or 10 minutes just staring at the loading screen.

So that's awsome.

Alright guys, I got it figured out. Go to steam, right click it, and go to the monitor screen. There you'll observe that HL2 isn't finished downloading. It just told us that it was for some reason. So wait for it to finish!

I dont have it yet guys but I have been playing a lot of games lately and my Norton firewall will sometimes crash/freeze a newly installed game the first time I run it. Exactly what your describing freezing my system and I have to reboot because you can't see behind the game that norton is asking you if you want to allow the game internet access through your firewall. The solution is to set your firewall to allow the game .exe to access the internet before running the game. I suspect that is the problem. I will have the game in a few hours myself so will know if I am right or not shortly.

Believe me that isn't the problem we are having... This has more to do with missing files.

Also, Nebor mine says 93% downloaded. Status - Requires update. Is it updating? doesn't look like it's doing anything.

I really hope that "missing files" isnt the problem since some game companies want to replace the disc if that is the case and you could end up waiting weeks for a new one especially since Best Buy and other stores will refuse to replace it. Going to be a lot of pissed off/on costomers.

Could also be clonecd and alcohol 120% and clonedvd and other slysoft software that is causing the copy protection to have a fit. Try disabling or uninstalling those programs. Turn off "hide cdr media" in clone cd too.

huh?? I download it through steam, no cd's. It's has been pinned down on other forums to a faulty preload of the files. Mine is sitting at 94% not moving.

I've installed/redownloaded twice, both times I crash. And yes I was at 100% both times.

I had Steam running all night thinking the "unlock" files would download at 3:00 AM EST. But I ended up having to exit and re-open Steam and the files downloaded. I also had the game crash already when I was adjusting the video options, but that might have more to do with my outdated video driver.

That could be a RAM problem. Are you overclocking, by any chance?

...will report of progress (or lack thereof) when I arrive.
