This patch works as advertised (at least on GF6 & GF-FX 5900XT, can't test ATi improvements since I don'ty have an ATi card).

A very nice piece of work. Managed to do what lard-arse Gabe and his "shady" programmers couldn't/wouldn't.

ok heres some pics

im not sure i installed the patch in the right place so i dunno if its worked. i just installed it to the default it came with (c:/programfiles/bin) HL2 is also just on the C drive in default directory

i was gonna use the stress test as a comparison but of course its still buggered

when i started steam it updated so some of the things you see may be because of that.

in the pics you'll notice the HUD is abit messed up, specifically the AMMO count and Aux Power bar. but wether this is valve or the non official patch idont know

4 cant see no evidence of that parallax mapping

anyone else care to try?

You didn't install it to the right place.

On my computer it went here:
E:\Games\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\User\Half-Life 2\bin

installed here
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\otispunkmeyer551\half-life 2\bin

didnt notice anything different....HUDs all correct now though, the HDR was maybe a bit brighter than before, didnt really feel any smoother. didnt notice any stuttering. but visually nothing to report

some screenshots?

please 😉

I'll try and provide some if people can tell me interesting spots early on. I haven't got much further than the very outskirts of the suburb just past the river with the crane and ?hovercraft? thing.

I'm finding the game to be quite boring really and am too wrapped up in other games atm to be bothered.

I guess you think Lost Coast looks the same?

Well, it doesnt.

HL2 is impressive but not without its flaws

ive just watch the lost coast video....and they STILL have that daft banding artifact in the water...(ie when the sun light reflects off the water) the very first scene in the video you can see it.

it does this in the game (ie when your on the coast, driving the buggy) and it does this in counter strike too. is it to do with the precision of the shaders? not to start a flame, but, is that the limitation of SM2? do valve need to use SM3 to get better precision for the water? or is it simply a unfixed driver bug?

IMHO the water shader isnt all that spectacular either...when was the last time you saw water that had about 3 frames of motion

Did I say it was perfect? No.

I simply replied to someone who thought HL2 couldnt look better. When in Lost Coast it does.

Your little rant wasnt even on topic, and not even true. 3 frames of water? Link for proof?

it wasnt a rant, it was an opinion....and i believe everyone is entitled to an opinion. dont like it? dont reply

thats the way i see it thats all, you and others may think its the best thing since sliced bread, some maybe indifferent, i think its not really that good considering dev time etc. its better than farcrys for detail ill admit, but its not worlds better. to me it looks like a continuous loop of small animation. plus of course the banding in some areas.

everyone percieves the world differently

i was simply saying what i thought, is that wrong?

change your password and delete everything in your steam folder

Are you telling the truth or just messing around. Personally i am hesitant to take a person who joined here in 2005 over a person who has been here since '99.

What makes you think that this "steals" passwords.

yeah, I'm not going to believe it either, unless someone's virus scanner caught it or misidentified it. i'd think someone who had the skill to code HDR into game would be a real programmer, not a script kiddie, and had enough sense not to put a virus in this thing. just in case, it can't be a bad idea to change your password and exit Steam/HL2, though.
