As i always say with any screen pictures, they dont show it for real and look crap, HDR or not HDR just in general.

""Static screenshots of HDR fail to capture this effect, but if you click on this image you can watch it happen in a scene from the Lost Coast. Note that the left-hand side of the screen is running in Fixed Aperture (non-HDR) mode, and the right-hand side with High Dynamic Range.""

Honestly, i don't really see "too" much of a difference with that, at least not in game. Everything just looks really shiny and wet. It does loook good though.

Its a bit like trying to show you a HD movies great quality on a non HD TV. lol

If you aint got a Nvidia card supporting these functions i dont think you will see it fully even in screen pics or WMV (I may be wrong though). 😉

It's a definate inprovement on the Source engine. It does look very good. That's VALVe for you, always trying to do something new and inovative.

Yes, you will see it in screenshots and WMV. RGB is RGB. 😉 It's merely a function of the real-time graphics rendering engine. Anyway it looks pretty damn good. I LOVE lighting. For me that's the main factor that brings out the realism. A game without lighting is a game without realism.

And the fact its a free download is sooooo much better also. Valve are good to its community.

ooo, that looks perdy. Now they should release a side by side comparison between high quality and low quality HDR.

Agreed, lighting and shaders are the most important factors of realism imo.

I checked this out at E3 this year....several impressions:

The guy who set the PC up that this was running on should be shot, or at least never allowed to do this again. It was in the "Games for Windows" section sponsored by MS...the guy who was doing the walkthrough, showing off the features, I think was Robin Walker from Valve, who I think was part of the original TFT team that Valve hired - anyway...the vsync settings on the monitor were not at all in step with the settings in-game...there was tearing all over the place, it didn't look good at all...

As for the HDR, it's very cool - some of the demo they had showed a split screen, one side HDR, the other non-HDR - I think it is a step forward in the lighting tech for this type of game, and hats off to Valve for pushing the envelope at least...not sure why this hasn't already been released though.
