Half Life 2 issues...

After installing Half Life 2 I got an error that said, "Steam.exe was unable to open steam library.dll," or something to that effect.

Where do I go from here?

Thanks

You need to give more info.

Did you download steam and install HL2 from there, did you get a retail copy, are you trying to pirate it, did you try uninstalling them re-installing, did you restart before trying to run it....?

Please be more specific, as it could be any number of things.

But anyway, my initial thought was to reinstall Steam.

Yup. The first time I installed HL2, about a week after its release, I had to try about 4 times before it worked. Sucks swapping out cds 4 times on a 5CD install.

I installed it from the CD, and yes it is a the retail version, not pirated. I have tried reinstalling it once, but I haven't tried restarting.

I'll try downloading steam from the internet, if I can.

Well, Steam's internet download didn't work, so I tried to install from the disks again. I got an error message while installing, which I have never received before. "Error 1305: Error reading from file C:/Programfiles/Valve/SteamApps/source sound.gcf. Verify that this file exists and is accessible." I clicked retry and the same error occurred.

Steam is really annoying. I'll try installing it again, I guess.

Also, I am borrowing this from a friend; he had no problems installing. I am also just installing Half Life 2, not the other 3 possible games you can intsall: Half Life 1, Counter Strike Source, or Half Life 2 Deathmatch.

I am installing the game of the year edition.

Thats funny.
I have the DVD version and it installed properly the first time.

Cant imagine installing from the internet. That could take all day the way steam runs sometimes.

Well, I figured out how to get rid of that Error 1305 message. I installed Steam then I restarted before installing Half Life 2. Half Life 2 installed properly, but that Steam Error message continues to pop up, even after restarting.

Steam is worthless.

Can't download episode one. I click purchase for 19.95 from steam, goes to a this page cannot be displayed screen. same with firefox except it says doesn't support it.
