There's no fakefactory shortcut for me. Infact, the only shortcut is the Character pimper shortcut.

So of course I ran it from steam, how else would I play HL2?

If anyone could tell me the shortcut command, that would be greatly appreciated as the installer did not create a shortcut for me.

It should have installed the shortcuts to your start bar, otherwise you can find them in your sourcemods folder. Remember though, I couldn't get this to work until I installed the HD-Addon.

Here are some semi-comparison sreens. (aspect ratios are diff, sorry.)

Reg vs FakeFactory

These were all the beginning of Episode 2. The biggest difference is obviously character models, but there are some nice texture additions too. I also like the music in the fake version. Just gives is a bit of a different feel.

The character pimper is nice, lets you choose which model you would like at various stages of the game. (ie. don't need the same alyx outfit throughout.) I think the creator also released a "Hi-Def" version of Valves original Alyx.

You have to go to the 'add non-Steam game' button, then look for "Half-Life 2 (EP0)" and (EP1) and (EP2). Those are the CM executables.

Also, don't forget to run the Character Pimper and install all the HD models, as I don't think any will be installed by default.

Definitely dont like that newest look of Alyx. Sure, she looks pretty cute, but shes just been changed too much.

IMO, of course.

Yeah I'm a fan of the original Valve facemesh, and I'd imagine there will be a patch that'll add that in soon (as has happened with previous versions of CM).

I appreciate the help, but "Half-Life 2 (EP0)" and (EP1) and (EP2) are simply not in the list. I was under the impression by many, and even the readme that there would be a shortcut installed in the start menu, but there was none. If there was, it would also show up in the non steam games list as well.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and I'm getting to the point that I don't really care. If anyone has the shortcut path, it'd be greatly appreciate it. I'm sure it launches hl2.exe with some sort of argument, I mostly just need to know what that argument is.

It's something like program files>steam>steamapps>sourcemods>fakefactory_cm9

Once here, there are Launcher_HL2, Launcher_EP1, and Launcher_EP2.

Make sure you have all of the games installed before you installed the cinematic mod, and that each of the games have been run at least once prior to trying the mod. Also, steam must be closed during the install.

Err... I hate to say it, but those aren't in my steamapps directory. They simply don't exist on my computer.

Then again, I don't have steam installed in the default location. I have it on another harddrive along with all my other games. Fakefactory finds the drive well and installs all it's files there, except for the shortcuts.

Like I said, if someone would be kind enough to put the shortcut target here, I'd be able to create my own shortcut right now. But as of right now, I stand by my word, this mod has been a collossal waste of time...and judging by some of the screenshots posted here.. it's nothing that special in the first place.

I'll check my shortcuts when I get off work tonight.

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\FAKEFACTORY_CM9\Launcher_HL2.exe

Hope that helps :)

So, where you guys at?

I just got out of Ravenholm, on the road with the buggy. Game is just too damn beautiful, and it actually runs well!

Ugh, I just know this will consume way too much time.

Hey, thanks for the help.. but it appears it's a bad install. I even did it twice, but I guess the installer doesn't like the fact that I have my steam install on another drive. It installed everything, it appears, except for the shortcuts and launchers. Oh well. Thanks anyway.

So am I the only one who thinks the original looks better?

I've been playing the V8 second patch version of FakeFactory and it's friggin' awesome. For the people complaining about the models, just use the character pimper - it lets you choose whichever model you prefer. The character pimper comes pre-packaged with v8 of the mod.

I think some of the new versions of the characters (Alyx and Eli mostly) are hideous. Especially the new Alyx which is an abomination. As Juddog says you can use that pimper thing to select the original characters which is much, much better.

Downloaded v8 while I slept, and looking forward to trying it tonight! I didn't see the 8.2 fix, so that's another 450MB I'll need to squeeze out of damned Time Warner Cable NYC...

The version 8 with patch 8.2 of FakeFactory mod has "v9 models" in it which you can use via character pimper. There is a version of Alyx that is basically the normal version with much higher res textures, if you don't like the looks of the other model.

Personally I like the super athletic model though, but that's just me.

Why do you guys spend so much time whining about the character models, when the majority of CM is making the world textures, sounds, and music better?

If you think the original world looks better, you need glasses. If you think the original models look better, don't install the new ones.

Do these all require EP1/2 to run?

I just got the original without reading up enough on these to realize I needed the whole thing...dang it.
