Half life 2 episode 2 priced $29.95

Just checked out the Orange Box on Valve's website - it says if you buy now you get to play TF2 beta starting tomorrow (Monday 9/17).

The lame black-box canceling and bullshit orange box deal completely turned me off. I've already own almost the entire Valve's original catalog (HL + exp, CS, CS:S, DoD:S, HL2, EP1), so why force feed your loyal fan another copy of old game? Give it to a friend? Gimme a break. Lamest excuse ever devised for greedy money grab. I'll wait until I can try out TF2 to see if it's really worth the hype. Portal seems gimmicky to me, and EP2 doesn't appeal to me that much anymore. There's plenty of other games that's competing for my attention and money. I'm playing Quake Wars demo right now, and despite some of the flaws, it's pretty good mix between old ET and BF2. There's also tons of single-player mods for HL2 that I haven't tried. Some of them looks really polished. I can always kill 10-15 minutes playing Antlion Trooper.

i'm enjoying ETQW as well, although last night i had the WORST gdf team ever. we couldnt even get out of the base once the MCP was deployed.


has anyone expanded antlion troopers at all? i really liked that

I'm in the same boat as razor, i own a good % of the hl/hl2 series, and i really dont want to pay for anything but hl2:ep2......its just retarded honestly and now that i see it, I'm very iffy on if i want to buy it.

I absolutely loved HL 1, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift. I played through all of them several times. But I never bought HL2 and EP1, because I'm still ticked off that I have to connect to the internet and let the big-brother software call home in order to play a single-player game.

I'm almost ready to cave in. What should I look for to get HL2, EP1, and EP2? I'm not especially interested in the multi-player stuff. And I really want to know what the heck happened at Black Mesa and who the guy in the suit is.

You should just buy the orange box, for HL2, EP1, & EP2, you'll be getting your $'s worth.

I'm a little pissed now that E2 is going to be $30. Not it's "for $15 more you get all this great stuff.." but I already have HL2 and E1. Not sure about TF2 but I think I can get into it. I think Portal may flop per the lack of talk about it over the last year. Tempted just to throw my $$$ at ETQW and snub Valve for this stunt.

But down back to reality....Hl2 has a large enough fan base to charge that much. Wasn't D3 $59.99 when it first came out? Sheesh. I don't even remember it being on a DVD either.

D3 was on a DVD, or at least available on one.

Valve is milking this thing for all it's worth. Sadly, the only thing Half-Life has going for it is the fact that the story is so incomplete. If they made the story half understandable, people would stop playing.

As it is, they just come out with more BS storyline that makes no sense at all, forcing you to buy the next installment to get closure.

as stated earlier this is my favorite pc game. Funny how it's also the highest rated pc game of all time as well on IGN.

So you thought elevators powered by moving refrigerators made sense? No offense I did indeed enjoy the game, however the game was NOTHING like what Valve talked about it being and still could not release at a reasonable time. The reason why the game is so highly ranked is simply because of the fan base - mostly created by CS. Without the mod CS Valve would have almost nothing.

HL2 -
+good graphics,
some fun times,
very few graphical/gameplay bugs
-unbelievable situations, (seriously people get into the hideout by using the makeshift elevator that requires moving a refrigerator off of one piece of a balance while standing on the other SERIOUSLY?), lack of any real AI (remember when valve said the AI worked together and that nothing in the demo was script..), honestly adds little to the FPS world except being an early adapter of heavy physics and then allowing you to play with said physics via a gravity gun, furthermore the code for multiplayer is still quite sloppy.. which to me is the most lasting part of most games

Either way opinions differ and the truth is that just because the game is ranked highly by reviewers and many people does not actually mean that everyone believes it is the best game ever released on the PC. I would say that it is far from it in fact.

Oh also I agree with the storyline bit, I don't believe Valve has actually decided on a finished storyline and I would be willing to take bets that the story is not explained or resolved by the end of the episodic content for HL2.

Personally, it is likely that I will purchase it only because of the current 10% discount offered. Otherwise I would forgo ep2 and just get portal TF2
