Half Life 2: Episode 1 - worth the $20?

I liked Half Life 2 and lately have had an itching to play another FPS game... however, i've also had some annoying issues with steam, so I'm not sure I want to give them another $20 for a crappy service.

Is the game worth it?
 
ABSO-F*CKING-LUTELY!

Really great game -especially if you're a fan of HL2. It's great because you can really see how they've stepped everything up a notch. The voice acting, the puzzles, action -it's just so well paced. Not to mention, the commontary mode is extremely interesting.
 
Yea, I guess so.

If you want to continue the story I guess you'll have to pay for it 😉

If you could care less about what happens then don't get it.
It's not the longest game in the world though. You'll be it in 2 days if you set yourself to it.

I think it looks better then the first one though.
 
PROs
Its a great game and really furthers the HL franchise. I didnt get bored with any aspect of it. Informative developer commentary. I played it through twice in a row once without commentary and once with with no boredom. Looks even better than HL2.

CONs
Amazingly short. VERY VERY short. Think 3 hours short. Valve will likely give it to you for free or $9.99 when episode 2 comes out. You dont feel raped at $19.99 but it will leave you wanting more HL.

Conclusion
Would be a hands down must have for $9.99. Good at full price if you need a HL fix. If you can wait until episode 2 you will likely get it cheaper. Also Best Buy and Circuit City have run it on sale for $7.99 before so check your local ads.

 
When IS episode 2 coming anyways? The problem with episodic content is that it takes them so long between epsiodes that you forget what happened in the last one
 
I'm also waiting to pick it up for <= $10. I missed out the first (and subsequent, I guess) time it ran with that price.
 
I'm thinking about this and
I bought the Silver pack originaly which came with everything on the Valve Complete pack... except Episode2, why wasnt it just given free since I technicly own the same pack?

stupid system, anyways I dont want to buy it yet, waiting for Episode3.. which I will buy.. mostly because of TF2, but if it includes ep2 then I will be very happy 🙂

according to gamespot, it's due in February, 2007... i dunno if i wanna wait that long for hl 2: ep 1... hopefully there will be some nice discounts soon (maybe black friday)...

it is the worst of HL2 . . . unless you love the GG and puzzles 😛

I was just thinking that... what happened in episode 1? I dont remember... did the city get nuked at the end? Maybe im thinking resident evil...

I cant be bothered downloading it all over again, anyways it was worth my money, definately.

Alex and Gordon rode off on a train. Then the explosion of the city (the citadel reactor explodes taking out the whole city and surrounding area) caught up to them.

I just installed it yesterday. I got it free with a gfx card I purchased. I was thinking about giving it to one of my friends because Steam pissed me off so bad last time. I'm liking it better than the first one so far. The graphics look better than the first, and I dig the puzzles. The gravity gun is just a novelty though that wore off early in the first game 😛

I'm not finished yet, so I don't know if it's worth $20, but I'm glad I kept it for free.

 
I really want to play it. HL2 was amazing. One of the few FPS games I really enjoyed the single-player experience of. But it's $20 still! For 4-5 hours of gameplay? And I probably wouldn't play it more than twice through. Having no extra multiplayer add-ons is a bummer. While EP2 OTOH is having the single-player campaign, Portal, and TF2. For the same price? WTH is that?

I'll hopefully get EP1 if it ever drops to $10 or so.
 
Its good. for $10 I pre ordered for $17 I think. It was good but really would have been nice if it was an ~1.5 longer.
