Has anyone played Half Life 2 Episode 2 with a 7950GT? Can this card handle high settings at 1680x1050 with 4AA?

My 7600gt can handle it with 2AA @1680x1050 and this is with a single core, old processor. I could even do 1920x1200, but when I turned on the flashlight/HDR was used, it chugged a bit. It will probably be ok if you turn HDR off or use bloom.

Yes it can handle it. My x1950gt can handle 1920x1080 with 6xAA so I'm pretty sure the 7950 can handle that.

I think I'll dive into the Orange Box then. I'll just hang back and wait until I can afford a video card that can play Crysis at Very High settings before jumping on that bandwagon. :)

My 7900GTX can do 1600x1200 and max everything and I get framerates that are more than acceptable to me.

I should think your setup would be fine.

I didn't try 4xaa but had every thing else on high on 7900GT 256mb at 1600x1200 and it ran great. The only thing I did when I got my 8800GT 512mb was crank AA up to 16 and didn't really notice any difference in IQ or FPS ;)

I picked up this game last night at Circuit City. (They raised the price back up to full retail - $49.99 :( ) I played through the first few levels and am currently in the Antlion mines after leaving Alex with the Vortagons. These are the settings I'm playing at:

7950GT KO SC
1680x1050
All settings on High
4xAA, 8 AF

My FPS go from around 30 - 80 depending on the scenery. The FPS hang around 30-40s outside. Using the flashlight inside still gives smooth gameplay. The only time my video card gets hammered is using the flashlight outside. For some reason this brings the frames/second down to 13-17. Other than that the rest of the game so far has been very smooth. This game performs very well on year old midrange hardware.

Thanks for all your comments!

Geez, how are you getting decent framerates? I've got a 7600GT, 2GB RAM, and a C2D, think it's an E6600, 2.4GHz processor. I've turned it down to 1440x900, 2xFSAA, lowest possible settings for textures, model quality, shadows, and shader quality, reflections low, etc etc, and it still drops down to 20fps on outdoor levels, especially when trees are around.
Running at 1680x1050 turned into a slideshow when all the Striders started running around.

Are you guys on Vista with DX10?
WinXP + DX9.something here. I will install Vista the day a Microsoft rep threatens to shoot me unless I install it.
