Amazon has Half-Life 2 Collector's Edition for only $49.99 with free super saver shipping! It's selling for $30 more at other retailers, so if you've been looking to pick this up, now's a great time to do so.

Damnit! I just paid $65 with shipping.

Hum, guess I could be a real cheap ass and return the one i got and get this one.

i would've gotten this without thinking if i didnt already get the iso of the vng release with the steam-less installation

OOS already

I bought the standard edition form walmart the day it was released.I dislike stream.Where can I buy a steam-less version?

damn, I had it in my cart ready to enter the payment info....went out for a small break, came in...game is back to $73 from OD. ><

It's back - but read this Amazon review just so you know what you're getting. It does not mention that it comes on 1 DVD instead of 5 CDs.

This review is for the collectors edition only (the actual game is awesome).

The collector's edition - quite frankly - is a rip-off!

To make sure you understand what you are getting:
1) Half Life 2 - The game
2) Half Life 1 Remake using the new Source Engine
3) Counter Strike Remake using the new Source Engine
4) Prima Official Hint Book
5) A T-Shirt

The game itself is awesome, no questions asked. The remake of Half Life 1 is cool too, but you can download that for free when you buy the regular version of Half Life 2. The same is true for CS. So basically, you get a t-shirt (which is actually a nice shirt) and the prima thingy.

The Prima book IS NOT THE STRATEGY GUIDE! Instead, it is a tiny booklet with excerps from the strategy guide and the "making of" book ("Raising the bar"). It is an advertisement for these two books at best and by itself almost completely useless.

So basically, you are paying an extra 30 bucks for a t-shirt. Oh, but perhaps you want the nice big box? Think again! The box itself is crappy both in quality and in design. In fact, at first I thought the box got damaged and mangled during shipment, but it didn't. It just looks that bad!

This is probalby the worst collector's edition of any game I have ever seen. It delivers little value, unless you want a t-shirt. It doesn't even have a printed game manual for crying out loud!

You forgot to add the best part of the Collectors Edition: This is a DVD of the game and not the 5 cd set from the regular release.

I myself would rather install from 1 DVD, than to have to switch out 5 cd's during the installation.

it's a bigger ripoff when the game doesn't work. HL2 is crap

The game works flawlessly.
So please keep your rude comments to yourself.

There are some awesome sites out there that can help you with your possible problems.

I am thinking of getting this ONLY because it's a DVD. I'm not an XL. WhoTF is an XL? What total crap. I hate it when these "one size fits all" are for the fattest people on the planet, and look like blankets on most of us.

I digress. Anyway, the guide in this is also apparently pretty lame, but one dvd vs. 5 cds is not bad. If you want the game cheap you can buy it for high 30's in the buy new/used for amazon's non collector's ed. Some are thailand versions...not sure if that's ok or not, but some are US copies too.

One DVD is much better... The 6 CDs swap remind me of old King's quest game where they've as many as 10 floppy disks that you'll need to swap during the game if you don't have a hard drive. That was long time ago (in computer age).

Just got one for $49.99. Good deal.

Awesome, just got the game....and odd enough, there is a Amazon Visa offer w/ $30 off in first purchase!!!! so the final comes to $49.99-$30 = $19.99

I always get XL. Only because when I buy L the shirts inevitably shrink to where I can't wear them.

Gogamer.com was selling the regular version for $39.99 the other day. SurplusComputers.com currently has it for $39.99 as well. I went for this because of the DVD version and free shipping. Now I can show off my geekiness with the shirt as well.

I'll agree that this is the worst Collector's Edition I have ever gotten. But at this price, why not get it? It's $5 cheaper than the standard edition ($54.99).

I got CE for 2 reasons:

DVD and not 5 losable cds
DoD:Source when it comes out (hopefully won't be crap)

AND it's nice to have all the previous HL games for some nostalgic play.

I don't think it's a rip-off at all; it's just not what a lot of cheapasses expected.

EDIT: btw I got mine for $60 at GoGamer.
