Mario 64 was $80 when I got it back in '96...

Oh, and the topic title should be changed from Platnium to Collector's

people pay too much for extra's that arent worth it. Payed like $80 for wc3 collectors when it came out and all the extra's were bogus, just get the game and use the change to buy some dvds

anyone know if they'll be releasing a DVD version without all the collectors edition garbage?

No, they aren't. Why should they if people will pay $80 just for a DVD?

I don't want all the bonus crap, but I sure as hell don't want 6 CDs either. Therefore, I will be purchasing the "super-de-duper special platinum collector's edition" or whatever it's called. Valve (or Vivendi) has some good marketing employees, that's for sure. I know what they're doing, and I'm still gonna fall for the scheme... damn.

"Super Mario 64 is now available for the system at a MSRP of $69.95." - Link

So I paid about around a +15%/$10 markup above MSRP. Not bad considering it was sold out in most stores around my area during the holiday season (believe "Tickle Me Elmo" was another hot item of that year) & if I'd paid MSRP online w/ shipping it would've been around $80 as well.

IIRC the console that did have games @ and below the MSRP of $50 was PSX.

"As reported in December by N64.com, Mario Kart 64 will not ship with a pack-in controller, as it does in Japan. Nintendo's MSRP is $69.95" - Link

Isn't that what they said about UT2K4?

There was regular version on multiple CD's and then there was UT2K4 DVD special edition which included a Logitech headset (Sounds similar to HL2 already if you ask me). Then a few months later what d'ya know. A regular DVD version among others down the road i.e. editor's choice.

Yes, a few months later... I don't know about you, but I'm not waiting a few months (and Valve knows it too).

The original question was if they'll release a non-collector's DVD edition, not when or how long 'til & no one said VU (or Havas?) will do it.

An alternative DVD option is to download the content from Steam, buy the bronze version for 50 bucks (which is what I am going to do) and burn it on to a DVD yourself.

May as well just buy the download version and burn it on DVD if you have broadband and a burner....Steam is the future. 🙂

Its not like the game itself will have any re-sale value anyways so burning it is a good option.

Still though , at least they could have offered it for abit less than $50.

Deal just got hotter,

Now in stock and now with FREE shipping.

Best deal on the Collectors Edition I have been able to find.

is it possible to burn it on to dvd and then install it from that???

If you're talking about the files you download from Steam - then "sort of", but you'd still need to re-authenticate with Steam after reinstalling before you could play.
