Half Life 2 and SLI problem

I am using a pair of eVga 7900 GT CO's and the latest official drivers. When using SLI, it seems whatever settings I attempt to use in Half Life 2 results in micro-stuttering or motion blurring.

I have played with AA and AF and use the recommended AFR method of rendering. I can set everything to low settings and drop the resolution, or to high settings and high resolution, and I still get the same issue I mentined above. Switching to single gpu seems to solves everything and the picture is much more fluid.

I do not have this problem with other games. I am not running anti-virus or anything in the background.

Has anyone experienced this problem? I am wondering if I am overlooking something or if a different driver would work better.....thank you!

m :)

BTW: I am using an X2 4400+ @ 2.7 GHz with 2 gb of ram (ddr492)

Edit: I was able to force the game into DX7 and DX81 but the results are still crappy

Maybe... VSync? Is it doing this with VSync on?

That's the only thing I can think of...

Maybe try setting all settings in the NV control panel to app controlled?

It's a bit better with VSync off, but the tearing is horrendous. I'm completely baffled. A single 7900 GT with VSync on runs like butter, and SLI goes to micro-stutter. Guess, I'll have to just run it single gpu.

I've been through a DC Pro clean, re-install and no change. I am just stunned that HL2 and SLI don't play well together. My Far Cry, COD2, and Pacific Fighters all run flawlessly in SLI.......stumped.....

Will go back through every setting though, thanks....:)

I had 2x7900GT's and never had a problem with it.

And, AFAIK using vsync with SLI makes it default to SFR which isn't as fast as AFR that it uses in the profile.

Try the new 97.92 driver. Text

Works with all cards and has excellent quality. (and it seems that other cards are not plagued by the same problems the G80 users have so your safe with this driver).

I had the same problem with a pair of 7800GTs. Weird tearing that didn't go away with triple-buffering, V-sync, etc. That was a year ago though and I thought Nvidia had fixed the problem in the interim.

I'm fairly sure its driver problems. However, Half Life 2 is infamous for its "stuttering" bug. I had it once a reinstall fixed it.

Thanks for the replies....I am using the 97.92's now (thx wizboy) but they still don't solve the problem. I have exhausted all the options I can think of. For whatever reason, a single card is perfectly fluid, so sound stutter is not the problem. SLI with AFR forced and vsync off still gives me micro-stutters. I've spent enough time on this, what a pity, since all my other games in SLI are ok. So much for plug and play, the nVidia profile isn't cutting it here.....
