I have a fairly old Best Data CMX110 cable modem, and I also use SunRocket VOIP service. I've been having a lot of intermittent problems with echo and static. What's the likelihood that replacing my old cable modem with one of these would make any difference?

Do you use a router?

Comcast charges you a rental fee.

Same for Adelphia. $3.00 a month rental fee. Just returned my leased modem today after buying my uncle's modem. He's not gonna be using it since switching to DSL, might as well save me some money in the long run by buying my own.

Yes, I have a Linksys WRT54GS, updated to the most recent Linksys firmware version, which supports QoS, but I've also tried it with the "gizmo" in front of the router, and I still had the same problems.

I have the SB5100 and it worked flawlessly with my ancient netgear RT314 router. All I had to do was spoof the mac address.
